I worked at LHR Airports full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed working for Heathrow because you could see the difference you made. I was included in the Performance review process even though I was a contractor initially. The other companies I worked for never included contractors, in fact they made you feel like you had leprosy :-( You felt included. It was also nice to be able to dress casually on Fridays and the work/life balance was very good.

    Cons

The only con I can think of was the time it took me to get to work.

I worked at LHR Airports full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent environment, working in a large organization with 7 Airports at one point.
    Good work life balance.

    Cons

Management are only looking after themselves. definitely case of Bad Management.
Contractors paid large amounts even though same role/skills as permanent staff. This prevalent during any large construction project, i.e. T5 and T2.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think about your staff, they do all the work, saving money matters more to management, leadership not in touch, this is across all department, from Security, to Engineering, IT has now been outsourced.
CEO is now leaving, but used to come to staff restaurant to sit with staff, staff too scared to tell him what was actually happening, possibly scared.
I am not a disgruntled ex-employee, I left to progress my career, hope you will help current employees progress theirs.

    Cons

    I worked at LHR Airports

    Pros

The tagline 'If it can happen, it probably will' probably sum's up working at Heathrow well. It's a unique environment where anything can and will happen, every day is a different day and there is just no way of knowing what to expect. An exciting and ever changing environment with huge operational demands and massive demand for infrastructure that just is't big enough to cope, means that as a manager you are constantly challenged and developing yourself and skills. Managers are empowered to make decisions at all levels of the organisations when it comes to protecting the operation, great sense of team work especially when the going get's tough.

    Cons

Having a clear career path can be difficult, with union agreements and the so forth, jobs are purely advertised and candidates successful on the strength of CV's and interviews, current and previous performance is not factored in which can be disheartening for those who do a fantastic job and are capable but are just not good at the interview stage. Constant re-orginsations and changes in leadership often impacts the understanding of what the current direction is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try and get some stability in the senior team's, don't be afraid to challenge the union's and do the right thing

I have been working at LHR Airports

    Pros

Exciting sector with something new every day.

    Cons

In a process of selling airports which means you work at an airport and not for the BAA group. Not good or bad, just be clear about which you want to do if you are thinking of joining.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect the good job people do.

I have been working at LHR Airports

    Pros

Working for BAA since 1997 and the best reasons to work at BAA are family oriented, friendly, helpful and always supportive towards there staff.

    Cons

Less communication between management and staff and less praise from management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more support, help, motivation and encouragement to staff who wants to move forward within BAA.
