Pros
LRN is a place where colleagues are challenged and stretched continually, which forces people to grow and expand every day. LRN's mission, helping people do the right thing based on principles, is unique and inspiring. It is a noble purpose and one that has the power to change the world, which is a great reason to get out of bed each morning.
Cons
LRN is a laboratory where the colleagues that work here are the scientists trying to create and prove out the philosophy of what LRN's solutions are in support of. This lack of traditional structure makes it a harder place to work than what some people might be used to or expect.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on the mission of the company but continue to find ways to recognize, nurture and support those that work here.
Pros
The company is transparent in its communications.
It is willing to listen to the employees and make changes if management feels it is for the better
When an internal survey felt that the top management should be more receptive, our CEO apologised personally and I feel that the gesture was wonderful
The company functions on trust. it does not monitor your working, the time you come in or go out, they trust you. They trust in to declare our holidays. There is no barrier to internet usage or any other activity. This is the only company that I have seen that is willing to take this risk.
It is a flat structure - very few colleagues stand on procedure, we can easily correspond with colleagues across the world
The company is very decent in its compensation package to employees and the benefits they give - bus service, facilities in the office, etc.
The company has set a very high bar for itself, in terms of ethics and is trying its best to "walk the talk".
I enjoy coming in to work every day.
Cons
Sometimes it takes a very long time for a decision to be taken, in the case of hiring, for instance.
There are time disadvantages as offices are located in different parts of the world.
Pros
The work culture is great. The environment is extremely friendly and vibrant. Every employee is encouraged to lead, to take initiatives. Every individuals opinion is highly valued. The over all experience working at LRN is quite satisfying.
Cons
Recruitment process needs to be reviewed to ensure the process is quicker and better.
Advice to Senior Management
As Leaders, you have a great vision for the company and the employees. I would like to see more realistic and achievable goals set for a FY and ensure we begin working towards them right at the beginning of the year.
Pros
LRN sincerely strives to put its principles into action. I have worked for too many organizations that paid lip service to principles. It is refreshing to work for one that actually tries to live up to its principles. Another thing, there are so many exceptional people working here. Thirdly, the flat structure and emphasis on self-governing means you have the freedom to recommend changes and people will listen to you. Fourthly, the organization has a clearly defined business strategy, and it is pursuing it with great determination.
Cons
The flat structure, while empowering, also demands patience, clear thinking, and planning if you want to initiate a change to a far greater degree than more hierarchical organizations. This can be frustrating to managers who are used to a more command and control style of working.
Advice to Senior Management
Stay on course with the changes that have been initiated, even though it may seem like they are not taking root. People are naturally cautious.
Pros
The senior management is mission-driven and focused on improvement. The status quo is not tolerated. In many areas, we are making excellent progress that we can be proud of.
Cons
The company remains in a state of change and evolution. This can be uncomfortable for some people. It sometimes feels we spend more time talking about the work than doing the work.
Pros
Great mission
Ability to make positive change/have impact on global challenges
A place you can be proud to talk about with friends/family
Apply your professional skills to a higher purpose
You gain the personal gratification of a "nonprofit" but with a for profit business
A place you can build your own reality; leadership is there for those who want to seize it
You are literally part of the solution -- ability to innovate how the LRN business is run and how we create solutions for the companies we work with
Cons
Lack of knowledge management capability
Too much "recreating the wheel"
There is promise of career development/mentoring, which is positive, however, haven't yet seen this turn into reality
Too many competiting priorities
Advice to Senior Management
Embrace data as source of decision making
Seek champions of ideas and initiatives...too many leaders can sometimes mean that some of the balls remain in the air/without tactical ownership
Chose not to pursue ideas/initiatives in favor of doing a few things really well
Pros
LRN is committed to doing meaningful work with and for our partners. We provide them with education for their employees, solutions to help them improve their cultures, and tools and services to enable them to compete and survive in a very competitive, transparent world.
The LRN work environment provides me with an opportunity to work with some of the most committed and experienced professionals in the industry. These people are hard-working individuals who roll up their sleeves and take responsibility for helping our partners overcome challenges and solve problems, individuals who support each other and go out of their way to make new colleagues feel welcome.
For me, it has been an environment that has inspired me, encouraged me, and allowed me to grow personally and professionally. I have not always agreed with decisions that we have made as an organization, but I have always been encouraged to voice my differences with those decisions. When I have expressed them, I feel that I have been heard and that my opinion has been respected. As a result, I work closely with a group of individuals that participate fully in this open culture where they not only speak up, but also hold me accountable and thereby inspire me with their candor, passion, and commitment.
The reason I remain as committed to the company as I was when I started over 9 years ago is the opportunity it provides me to work with smart, energetic people who are committed to making society better by helping people understand “how” to do things the right way. I feel the work we contribute to at LRN during any given day or week or month is going to make our society better. I can’t think of a better reason to come to work each day. I respect the perspectives of those who feel differently, and wish them well on their personal journeys apart from LRN, but to those who share that mission and that vision, I’m proud to number you among my colleagues.
Cons
Lack of an organizational chart and titles can be challenging for some and it can be a very difficult place to work for individuals who like structure.
We have crucial positions that need to be filled which results in many of our colleagues having intense workloads.
We have high standards and aspirational goals and sometimes we make mistakes, but we work continually and meaningfully on self-reflection, a process that reveals those flaws and allows us to address them.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to encourage and embrace open communication throughout the organization and listen to and act on the feedback you receive.
For all of my colleagues: continue to speak up, collaborate, celebrate our successes, hold ourselves and each other accountable when we veer off course, and—most importantly—be proud of what we’re doing.
Pros
Good work & culture Environment
Nice people to work with
Flat organization & Open communications
Lot of Facilities & benefits
Cons
Slow Decisions making from the Management. This leads to lot of problems.
Slow Hiring process. It takes more than 4-6 months to hire a new person.
Low Wages. Management always say that they are working on it but there is no end results.
Advice to Senior Management
Decisions should be taken quickly. Some decisions cannot wait. You need to look into the Hiring process. No other company take this much time to hire people.
Salary is more important part then any other facility or benefits. You should make that as a priority.
Pros
LRN is trying to achieve something very unique. The mission of inspiring principled performance is one that is an honor to be a part of. LRN has huge opportunities if it can rise to the challenges it faces. Individuals at LRN can have a big impact.
Cons
Resources are stretched and the company has had difficulty hiring.
Pros
I have been with LRN for six years. I know this is where I belong professionally, and I did from the day I first interviewed.
LRN has certainly had its struggles, as all companies do. However our mission, which at its core calls for people to conduct themselves with integrity and a genuine awareness of their impact on others, is captivating and in very close alignment with what I have defined as my own life’s purpose.
The work I do here is therefore deeply meaningful for me. It’s also critically important on a societal level. By engaging in it, we’re striving to drive the kinds of organizational changes necessary to bring out the best in entire companies, and we’re helping position those companies not only to succeed, but to work with one another to innovate and thereby address the greatest societal problems of our time (poverty, education, health and depleted natural resources to name a few).
I, for one, believe that we are truly capable of advancing our mission, because we are so intensely committed to our work and to one another. I believe unreservedly in my colleagues and I know they will not let me fail. They are remarkably wise, driven, creative and dedicated; and this not only brings out the best in me, but has further clarified for me the incredible power of shared vision and common purpose.
In short, I am honored to be a part of LRN, invigorated by the hard work we’re doing to maximize our potential, and grateful for the opportunity we have everyday to positively impact the business performance of companies worldwide.
Cons
The work environment at LRN is fast-paced, fluid and at times unpredictable. This creates enormous opportunity for personal and professional growth and creativity, but it’s not for everyone.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the lines of communication open, and continue to be part of developing an environment of unconditional trust, camaraderie and frank discussion. These are the qualities that will dissolve distraction and allow us to stay focused on advancing our mission and purpose.
