Pros
I find LSI to challenge with interesting work, with good benefits and good compensation. My co-workers are friendly and management is reasonable. The company is strong in some products and has good customer base in areas.
Cons
The company has layoffs regularly. Management is "Adminstrators" not "Leaders" and wants loyalty more than performance (pay-for-performance is run this way). If you are not part of core group, your advancement will suffer and you might get cut.
Pros
It has been challenging work place. It is a good starting point for new graduate with a very informative training program.
Cons
The working hour is long. It is very hard to get a balance work life with the amount of workload.
Advice to Senior Management
The organization has been switching too often in the past, which gave a lot of pressure and uncertainty to the employees.
Pros
LSI allows virtual office work at home so you don't need to be there every day.
The people are fun and the work stress is low. and the best part is that the
cafeteria is very good.
Cons
Very few promotions - the job you get when you start is the only position you will ever have.
there are lots and lots of layoffs.
Advice to Senior Management
get deeply and emotionally involved with the people by
getting hands dirty - learn the ropes - do the Undercover Boss thing.
Pros
great chance to work with many genius and many good projects
Cons
income increase is not so much.
Advice to Senior Management
I think the managers at least who I work with are very good
Pros
flexible work environment and recognition of tiem off for volunteering at schools
Cons
Too much focus on reporting up and taking time away from technical contributions
Pros
LSI in Allentown is the old Bell Labs/Agere system and therfeore is renoonwed for a lot of technical innovation. Pay and benefits are great and never have had a pay cut. Promotion is fair and has parallel ladder for technical people. One a a few companies that have the pension system for old timer. You can get a monthly check of $2000/month after tax if you are above 50 and quit the company.
Cons
Great technical company but poor marketing n. Company lost market share to Marvel and Broadcom. Company always think about periodic layoff to cut cost instead of growing revenue. After merging with LSI Logic, Allentown is no longer center of gravity. LSI likes to outsource manufacturing and engineering work to India and China. Morale is low and old people trie tos hang on to the job. The place relies on mass storage business to survive.
Advice to Senior Management
Grow revenue instead of cutting cost by outsourcing and layoff.
Pros
Collaborative spirit across IT and business.
Cons
Long hours, much due to changes in management direction from quarter to quarter.
Pros
Work with the latest storage technology, implementing features that are useful to customers and innovative. Many other good employees at LSI that care about their work. Opportunity to make a difference.
Cons
Many jobs are moving to India, never to return. Tough competition with competitors attempting to take market share. Multiple offices causing some communication problems.
Advice to Senior Management
Commit to employees in the United States instead of India. Training people in India will only allow them to switch to a better job.
Pros
NA Good place to be associated
Cons
Should be more clear in communication
Advice to Senior Management
Plan in advance
Pros
Good intellectual property; good people - most have been there for some time; decent systems and tools to work with
Cons
Very poor management with very limited experience
No chance of advancement if not within a favored few
Reorg every time you turn around
Outsorcing to India and laying off resources with knowledge leaves holes
Advice to Senior Management
Stop the reorgs every few weeks - things take time to work out and changing it every few weeks doesn't help anything. Take some management classes and stop micro managing.
