I have been working at LSI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Focused on products the company specializes in. Good benefits package and nice work life balance. Allows working from home depending on the type of project your are involved in. In my job, did not have much work related travel.

    Cons

Small company mentality... ultra careful in spending money to develop. No room for career advancement

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to developing employee skills.

I have been working at LSI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salaries are very good and the engineers are excellent

    Cons

A great heritage from AT&T, Lucent and Agere is being ripped apart by Avago who purchased the company in 2014. The groups that aren't being sold off (the lucky ones) are being laid off to increase profit margin. So long to a great and proud company.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Hock Tan as soon as you can before there is nothing left but a shell.

    Pros

Working with the right team, they make me feel like i have a second family. Colleagues worked hard and knew when to play. Have work and life balance when i seek for it.

    Cons

Company is too focus in cost cutting and not revenue generating activities. Too many layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Focus on revenue generating activities and take bigger risks.

I worked at LSI full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Until the recent purchase by Avago, LSI was a fantastic company to work for. They treated employees well, and had great benefits and wellness programs, as well as a wonderful recognition program. Salaries were competitive, and the work environment was positive, especially as they started to come out of a difficult recession.

    Cons

As the acquisition with Avago neared completion, it was clear the company would no longer be an employee friendly company. One of the first key benefits taken away was the opportunity to work remotely. LSI would allow employees the opportunity to work from home 1 or 2 days a week, to help improve the life balance for those that tend to work very long hours and often 7-8 days a week. Since the acquisition, Avago has broken the company into pieces, and sold off large product lines, therefore leaving even more employees out of work, all in the pursuit of profit for shareholders. I feel really bad for those left behind at the minimal existence of a company

    Advice to Management

Hock Tan needs to stop micro managing employees, and consider the well being of his people.

I worked at LSI full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

People, people, people. At LSI, the people make the difference, especially in IT. From the CIO down, the IT staff were very knowledgeable and very easy to work with. And we were always provided with the latest and greatest technology, whenever it was needed to perform our functions.

    Cons

There were many times when vacation balances stopped accruing because there was rarely a good time to take time off. When that happened, it felt like you were losing money...

    Advice to Management

When times are profitable, consider increasing IT staffing to adequate levels...

I have been working at LSI full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Everything about this work place is awesome. Really cool managers who organize trainings often to make sure you are brought up to speed. Very team oriented approach in handling firmware issues. The work culture is the best I have ever seen. Managers are friendly and listen to you and make sure you are comfortable at workplace or outside.

    Cons

As far as management goes, no question about how they manage their teams. But onsite infrastructure in the Norcross division may use some improvising in terms of cafeteria.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the same strategy and employees will stay

I worked at LSI full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Before Avago: LSI was a respected place to work with a good work/life balance. Management respected engineering input and lengthened schedules if warranted. IC design today has become a 24/7 endeavor, which the management recognized by allowing engineers to work from home several days a week. Being professionals, this worked to both the employee and corporate advantage, in the connected world of today. After Avago: I may still have a job, IF: I'm paid below the median, youthful, and don't ruffle any feathers...... Oops, strike three ......

    Cons

Before Avago: LSI was a primarily a product focused company with little emphasis on innovation and research, unlike part of its AT&T Bell Labs heritage. Periodic layoffs and hiring to match headcount to budgets with little regard to maintaining world-class talent. After Avago: Being unable to escape.

    Advice to Management

Treat the non-management staff with the respect they deserve, as they pay your exorbitant salaries. Star Ratings below are for an LSI employee who's been merged into Avago. The only reason the business outlook six months out is favorable, is the CEO will cut his way to rising stock prices. Down the road, watch out for the cliff!

I have been working at LSI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Used to be a great company to work for, yes we worked hard, but it always paid off and people were recognized

    Cons

No telecommuting, no 360 reviews of management, people chosen alas leaders for storage, majority don't know the business and could care less about employes. Hock being given a snow job by marketing where SW test/dev is upfront and truthful. Customer marketing is a joke, little to no training, customers demand people to be removed from their accounts. Retaliation and discrimination is allowed, those involved get promoted instead of shown the door
