I worked at LSI full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good pay and benefits, but that may be changing with the acquisition. The coffee is still free. Challenging work in the area I was in.

    Cons

Layoffs, Layoffs, Layoffs. Google 'layoffs LSI', and see what you find. Bottom line focus. The upcoming acquisition may change things radically.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop talking about being innovative. Innovation requires taking risks. Bottom line accountant-run companies do not take risks, do not innovate, they just milk the existing products for all they're worth.

I have been working at LSI full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Multiple good business areas allowing potential technical challenges to tackle. Maintained technical teams through ups-and-downs.

    Cons

Senior management has no idea about the talent in the company, and does not seem to want to know or care. Surprised that it fashions itself as technology innovator when management is focused on get-the-work-done rather than get-the-work-done-correctly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Technology innovation is not a buzz word from few chosen ones, but comes from the rest the of the talent. Invest in them and reap rewards. Management cannot recognize non-customer facing technical challenges, but cares only the customer facing interaction--strange for a management of a technology company.

I worked at LSI full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Some compelling technical issues to solve in storage BU. Many smart, people-oriented, successful folks to work with, exchange ideas and learn from. Flexible work hours in most cases.

    Cons

There's a noticeable amount of "behind the scenes" maneuvering performed by management in every level from the bottom to the top. Instead of working together to find solutions, sometimes they work at cross purposes or fight turf wars.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As the Avago merger settles and head count adjustments are made, think clearly about what you need to get done to meet first- and second-level goals. Don't worry about building an empire or fighting your old gun battles--you won't have time for that at Avago, since it's much more focused on components and the bottom line. Make your group more efficient (yes even if that means laying off some more).

I have been working at LSI for more than 10 years

    Pros

The overall benefits package is really awesome.
The pay is also very competitive.
Low to mid level workers are all very skilled.

    Cons

LSI used to be a great place to work until we got a new CEO who brought in all of his Intel cronies and changed the entire culture of the company.
    Career advancement is non existent.
Too much time spent on making non value add presentation slides to appease upper level managment.

I worked at LSI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Strong process orientation brought in by ex-Intel Management.
    Clear vision and objectives.
Technology Leadership in certain analog/mixed-signal technologies
    Decent package/benefits compared to competition
Better new building than the one they had in Milpitas

    Cons

Highly politicized environment (which company isn't?)
As a mid-tier semiconductor company, challenged by competitor(s) with bigger wafer volume and better wafer pricing
Not very much upward mobility, no good travel opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try and maintain LSI values, processes even after the acquisition
