I have been working at LSU full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Everyone is friendly. Tuition waiver+living stipend. Research atmosphere is wonderful. No one is pushy. Cannot complain anything. Learned a lot from colleagues.

    Cons

No really a lot personal life. Guess that is how graduate school works. Sometimes undergraduates can be rude but it is not a big deal. Really cannot complain anything.

    I worked at LSU part-time

    Pros

I enjoyed the department personnel and interacting with the students.

    Cons

Some personnel are not as motivated as others. Some are only looking toward retirement and checking off the days. Parking was a bit far away from office, but that happens on large college campuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look for ways to keep people engaged and to have fun.

I have been working at LSU

    Pros

There is an infectious LSU spirit that makes you proud to be a tiger, and to cheer on our many sports teams. There are also lots of opportunities - I came in as a music major (they have a great music school!) and ended up adding on a math major. There aren't many state schools that are as cheap as LSU that have such a wide scope of excellent programs. Also, I have been more than satisfied with their scholarship program. They recognize hard work and reward it. There are also lots of on-campus job opportunities.

    Cons

Since LSU is a public state school, not all the other students care about classes very much. Some of the professors for the gen ed classes lower the level of the material so that students that don't put in much effort will still pass. On the other hand, if you are serious about your classes and show that you work hard and care about the material, the professors are extremely helpful overall. I did not find this to be the case in my upper-level music and math classes, although they were not as difficult as some other specialized schools (Julliard, MIT, etc.) which is to be expected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some state funding has been cut since I have started coming to LSU. They should consider bringing back some of the scholarships to attract the best and the brightest.

I worked at LSU part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great experience. Tuition waiver + living stipend. How can you turn down a great opportunity like that? Learned a lot about the operation of academic libraries. It helped me to meet and learn from many great librarian mentors.

    Cons

The physical facility needs a face-lift. The working area for technical services is the only complaint I have. It is in the basement of the building. Dark and cold. Not good for one's health. Other than that, I am quite satisfied.
