I have been working at Lafarge full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities for advancement as a large international company. Pay and vacation time are good. Strong focus on building a safer culture. You can get help and support in career development. Most people enjoy working for Lafarge. Good work life balance.

    Cons

There is bureaucracy that is typical in many large companies that can be frustrating at times. On the whole the company is slow to make changes as risk adverse. Leadership and management over the last few years has been lacking with repeated restructuring. Health benefits use to be above average now they are below average.

    Advice to Management

Make decisions faster and start implementing changes. Often times waiting until everything is exactly right or the risk is mitigated the opportunity has passed. Focus on implementing decisions and changes quickly.

Many international opportunities. Also, working in world leader within that field, and employees have a high level of knowledge and skill

    Cons

Work hours are long, and there is an overall culture of putting in more hours than necessary, without added benefits. Work life balance needs some review.

    Pros

Great culture- everyone is very personable. Safety is top priority. Great opportunities to grow within the company. The company takes good care of its employees.

    Pros

Your objectives and bonus are set for you by management.

    Cons

The industry is in bad shape and what used to be higher paid positions are now well below the norm. They can't keep squeezing forever. The talent loss will become great in the next few years.

    Advice to Management

The cement industry is not for most people in general. At the plant level it is very hard work and not in the best of environments, hot, dusty, dirty, long hours. The compensation used to be there but not now.
