    Pros

There was a large amount of autonomy in my work. I was generally left alone to do my job.

    Cons

This is some years ago, but when an HR representative, who is still with the company, can look at a room full of people and tell them, with a straight face, that while changing time off policy employees are gaining a day of PTO when there is actually a net loss in time off for the year, you should get an idea of the ethics of people with which you are dealing.

    Advice to Management

Instead of having your HR people, who are obviously monitoring this site, come on and within a couple of days write glowing reviews about what a great place Laird is to work in order to offset the bad reviews, why don't you actually read and work on some of the issues employees have posted here? There is definitely a theme across the board.

    Pros

Laird, is uniquely positioned to deliver solutions to the ever-changing global environment across a wide range of applications. Laird is filled with bright people working hard to drive business results while having fun doing it. Other strengths are:

    Strong Leadership team
    Global Presence
    Great Career Advancement Opportunities
    Agressive Growth

    Cons

Throughout Laird a lean work culture provides for many great employment opportunities. The lean work culture is really much more of a strength.

    Advice to Management

    Extremely strong global leadership team

    Pros

Flexibility is key for Laird as is employee development in relation to someone's skills and background. The people are fantastic as well and everyone truly embraces teamwork.

    Cons

There is a lot to do with a very lean staff; however, at the end of the day the teamwork mention under the "pros" section gets us through this every time.

    Advice to Management

Compensation packages are fair within the company, but feel slightly below market...not by job description, but by actual responsibility.

    Pros

Laird is an opportunity to work for a global company with a family-like culture. Not only are the people great, but aspiration to step up to new challenges will allow a driven person to learn more than they ever imagined. In this fast-paced industry, there is always a new project to welcome new resources. I've gained more experience in my 6 years at Laird than twice that time at a previous employer. The opportunities are truly endless.

In addition to the opportunities to deepen skill sets, Laird has an extremely flexible attitude toward work/life balance. Work location is agnostic with roles where punching a clock in an office environment isn't necessary. Many employees work from home a few days a week and also enjoy flexible working hours to accommodate early morning or evening calls that are inherent to working for a global organization. The flexibility allows employees to enjoy knowing that they don't have miss another child's school event or feel guilty about taking the afternoon off following several of those early or late conference calls. It's an environment where employees are trusted to get the job done and not one of big brother watching every employee punch a clock. So refreshing!!!

    Cons

Working for a global organization isn't for everyone. For the adventurous, career-minded individual, it offers a world of opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Under the direction of Laird's new CEO, emphasis on cross-functional/divisional collaboration has been clear. Keep up the great work on that front. Leadership and sales development can aways benefit from more attention. It appears that efforts are well underway in those areas as well.

    Pros

Laird is the best place I've ever worked. The environment is incredibly fast-paced, which may not be for everyone, but is ideal for me. I have had many opportunities here to advance, and the people are mostly all extremely high caliber.

    Cons

As mentioned, Laird is extremely fast-paced. This may not be right for all people.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. I've seen big changes here over the past few years.

    Pros

Great people to work with at all levels. Work that can challenge you and can push you to learn and grow.

    Cons

    Employees tend to feel underappreciated.
In a few instances there is division between departments or business units but Typically not widespread. Lack of incentives and motivation to go above and beyond.

    Advice to Management

Trust and utilize your employees and resources to their full potential. Find a way to motivate your workforce (bonuses, profit sharing, incentives).

    Pros

Most of the worker bees are amazing people. They are the unsung heroes, the glue that against all odds keeps Laird from crashing.

Decent benefits. If you keep your head down, you could remain employed for the end of your days - or until the TM2M division implodes, which is imminent.

    Cons

Leadership team badly needs changing out. Horrible role models, and are the very root cause of the toxic culture. New GM (18 months) doesn't seem to have the stuff to take this division to the next level (10 yr old entrepreneurial start up to robust, mature operational excellence). Perceived dependency on one or two key Execs who are at the root of the site's dysfunction, along with a few Peter Principle Managers. Blame game is primary mode, to deflect personal accountability. Resource and compensation allocations are totally political. Zero focus on detailed costs or fact-based business decisions. Incredible waste.

Net result: "Lord of the Flies" environment.

    Advice to Management

Clean house. Focus on building the foundation necessary to sustain and become the nimble, flexible but company the telematics market requires. Get HR engaged in Organization Development and out of refereeing minor employee complaints.

    Pros

The people you work with day to day are great. They all want to to succeed and do the right thing in whatever they are doing.

    Cons

Management feels compelled to make everything more difficult than it needs to be. They expect everyone to work obscene hours and have little regard for those who work hard. Rarely promote from within and are slow to replace key senior leadership positions (i.e. VP Global Sales position open for nearly a year). Sales compensation plan is too complex and does not motivate the organization to perform.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to implement the latest MBA trend and let your people do the work they know how to do and the company will succeed. Compensate for performance.

  10. Great coworkers - could have potential

    Pros

Staff members work hard and get along well. Benefits are above average. High-tech product environment has great potential. Global nature can be positive for some.

    Cons

Company pattern of continual acquisitions with pattern of executive and management changes. Lean and mean strategy presents a challenge.

    Advice to Management

Put trust in people and stay the course. Meet the challenge of getting the most out of acquisitions while working to build one unified corporation.

    Pros

i am in IT, so for a big company with small IT teams, this is a good to work for. Very flexible, managers don't care if as long as you do the job. Honesty is really important, as i know couple of people got fired when they lied about some critical stuff on the job.

    Cons

more managers and directors than actual developers in IT. No concept of Bonus.

    Advice to Management

I would say beef some low level resources. Having bonus would definitely encourage employee productivity and also project incentive bonus helps a lot in meeting the timelines as it directly helps the resources monetarily.
