    Cons

No Support from the university. Supervisors have ultimate power over everything and nobody overlooks their performance and how they treat employees. No benefits are paid.

    Pros

The hours were somewhat flexible, but besides that, nothing.

    Cons

All employees are contract, with zero chance of renewal. All are part time minimum wage, with no chance of overtime or extra hours. 35 hours per week, no exceptions. I've had to go over my hours on certain weeks, and my supervisor told me to take it out of next week's 35 hours. New or younger employees are not welcomed, likely since the majority of management has been there for many years. Not a fun place to work. I count down my days until my contract expires.

    Advice to Management

Lighten up, listen to your staff. People want to succeed and bring in new ideas, but without listening to them and appreciating them, the company cannot grow. Honestly the worst and most disorganized employer I've ever had, and I've been in the work force for over 9 years.

    Pros

    Not a high standard university.

    Cons

Poor communication, unreliable management, unprofessional attitude. Administrative assistants without training act as managers, yet have no managerial skills.

    Advice to Management

A shift in attitude is needed if you are ever to attract world-class standing, which apparently you aim for.

    I worked at Lakehead University

    Pros

    Not fast paced, less stress.

    Cons

    Miserable co-workers and conceited bosses.
Not enough hours to be given, when promised.

    Advice to Management

Fix your attitudes. You are there BECAUSE OF THE STUDENTS. Don't treat them like they are stupid or unimportant.

I have been working at Lakehead University

    Pros

Great students, good overall atmosphere, close-knit environment, good colleagues, close to all amenities of living, relatively small class sizes, autonomy.

    Cons

University is too small to allow contract lecturers and part-time faculty to advance in their careers; management does not communicate with such employees sufficiently.

    Advice to Management

When cutbacks are required, please consider the students. Lakehead has always prided itself on small class sizes, so cutting back on front line lecturers is not a good idea. Consider cutting back at layers of administration instead.
