I have been working at Lamar Advertising as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

It is a family-oriented company that focuses on growing its employees from within. For a college graduate, it is a great company to start your first job with.

    Cons

As in intern, there was not much to do other than learn the computer system and items that Lamar sells ( bulletins, posters, transport advertising). The pay is very average for a sales rep job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I advise having all trainees go to Sales School in Baton Rouge rather than learning from the Plant manager and Sales Manger. This would keep the training for employees consistent.

    Pros

Small company feel in a large company.

    Cons

Salary is a bit low as compared to other companies, but the small company/family feel helps to make up for it.

    I worked at Lamar Advertising

    Pros

Committed to helping you do well in your position. Treats employee's well good work life balance overall. Very family oriented company.

    Cons

Not that much room for growth, people tend to stay in their positions for a lonnnnnngggg time. Due to a low turn over rate, it is hard to have your bosses position since he never leaves. However, they do train you to take his seat eventually if you choose to stay that long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow the digital network seek indoor advertising there are so many markets Lamar can go into and make a tremendous amount of money. Outdoor advertising needs more interaction with the consumer and phone. Hire more innovative young individuals that can help bring great ideas for growth.

I have been working at Lamar Advertising full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The companies values are great. The work-life balance is awesome. Very little micromanaging.

    Cons

Each office runs as a separate entity, so one market might be great to work in, but another may not. It is hit or miss in different regions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay more commissions.

I worked at Lamar Advertising part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The dress code is very casual and the work environment is very friendly and relaxed. The corporate office is very modern and unique. I've received comments that it resembles something out of a Google office. There's a full kitchen that would allow you to cook just about anything.

    Cons

Compensation is typically on the lower side.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Place more emphasis on retaining top talent.

    Pros

    Great product. Easy sell.

    Cons

This job could be done from a home office. Having to check in at 4:00 everyday is a little silly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Lamar Advertising full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Company tends to have a "small" feel even though it is a corporation. Many offices throughout the US are small and have a tightknit feel. Pay and benefits were good. 401K with company match was a plus. 5 sick days and 15 vacation days per year.

    Cons

At times, information flow from the "top" was scare. Smaller offices are often treated as "less important". Worked there for 8 years and NEVER had a visit from the top brass at our office which really seems shows you how unimportant you are to the company. Only saw a regional manager 2-3 times even though regional office was only a couple of hours away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the effort to include small offices - Regional managers and top brass should visit more often. Every office adds to the bottom line.
