I was a Sales intern for one Summer at Lamar.

    Intern (Current Employee)
    Baton Rouge, LA

ProsIt is a family-oriented company that focuses on growing its employees from within. For a college graduate, it is a great company to start your first job with.

ConsAs in intern, there was not much to do other than learn the computer system and items that Lamar sells ( bulletins, posters, transport advertising). The pay is very average for a sales rep job.

Advice to Senior ManagementI advise having all trainees go to Sales School in Baton Rouge rather than learning from the Plant manager and Sales Manger. This would keep the training for employees consistent.

    Great Company to work for

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSmall company feel in a large company.

ConsSalary is a bit low as compared to other companies, but the small company/family feel helps to make up for it.

Cutting edge company treats their employee's well very low turnover rate

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsCommitted to helping you do well in your position. Treats employee's well good work life balance overall. Very family oriented company.

ConsNot that much room for growth, people tend to stay in their positions for a lonnnnnngggg time. Due to a low turn over rate, it is hard to have your bosses position since he never leaves. However, they do train you to take his seat eventually if you choose to stay that long.

Advice to Senior ManagementGrow the digital network seek indoor advertising there are so many markets Lamar can go into and make a tremendous amount of money. Outdoor advertising needs more interaction with the consumer and phone. Hire more innovative young individuals that can help bring great ideas for growth.

Great environment but quotas are mostly unrealistic.

    Account Executive (Former Employee)
    Augusta, GA

    ProsGreat product. Easy sell.

ConsThis job could be done from a home office. Having to check in at 4:00 everyday is a little silly.

Advice to Senior ManagementSet attainable sales budgets.

    Small Office - Wonderful Co-Workers

    Artist (Former Employee)

ProsCompany tends to have a "small" feel even though it is a corporation. Many offices throughout the US are small and have a tightknit feel. Pay and benefits were good. 401K with company match was a plus. 5 sick days and 15 vacation days per year.

ConsAt times, information flow from the "top" was scare. Smaller offices are often treated as "less important". Worked there for 8 years and NEVER had a visit from the top brass at our office which really seems shows you how unimportant you are to the company. Only saw a regional manager 2-3 times even though regional office was only a couple of hours away.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake the effort to include small offices - Regional managers and top brass should visit more often. Every office adds to the bottom line.

    Sales Intern

    Intern (Former Employee)
    Huntington, WV

ProsNice people that were nice to work with
Easy work and never really made me do too much
Wanted to keep me on to work in sales

ConsGeneral Manager was not interested in anything
People who were there for a long time felt they owned the place

Advice to Senior ManagementThey should listen more to their employees and not take things away from there sales staff and just give them to others. They need to work with the people that sell and not just treat them like they are disposible.

    Family Feeling

    Assistant (Former Employee)
    Janesville, WI

ProsI was able to attend to functions for my children, doctors appointments as I needed without any difficulty. From time to time i was able to bring my children into work before or after an appointment. I was also able to take calls from teachers or emergency family calls without any difficulty. There was an overall family friendly atmosphere, even my co workers felt like family and cared for one another. I received a good wage for my work as well as written and verbal praises for a job well done. I was able to be part of a team yet make some of my own decisions on how to do my job. I was not micromanaged at all, instead trusted to do my job.

ConsI did not feel there was very good communication between the corporate office and our plant. There was also lack of communication within our office between Managers as well as with the employees. I did not feel that expectations were clearly identified and there was little accountability for actions. There were jokes about that 'anyone could do anything because no one gets written up anyway.' There were fellow employees that watched you tube during work hours, provided very poor customer service and there were no consequences. Being in a small office there were no advancement opportunities or cross training options.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate expectations with greater clarity and hold employees to those expectations.
