Lattice Semiconductor, 'more of the best'

Design Engineer (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsCompensation is competitive (even though benefits are sub-par), business outlook is improving with new FPGA product mix as older PLD products are phased out, FPGA market as a whole is relatively robust and growing even if Lattice has a tiny slice of a huge pie.

ConsWe need to find a permanent CEO to replace the interim CEO, asap. The company is just coming out a two year slump and several cycles of cost-cutting and consolidation. There's not much fat left to cut.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore focus and investment on sales and marketing. Maintain commitment to new product development.

    Lattice poised for growth

    Director (Current Employee) Hillsboro, OR

ProsLots of upside for new products and an increasingly high profile blue chip customer base. Lattices's proprietary embedded flash CMOS process developed with foundry partner Fujitsu is not available to competitors and represents a major barrier of entry for them. Lattice will continue to optimize product development around this process down to 65nm and 45nm nodes.

ConsThere is relatively high risk at Lattice given its financial resources and market share in comparison to its larger competitors Xilinx and Altera. Currently, the company is operating at around the breakeven point but will continue to have strong cash flows from its prepaid wafer agreement with Fujitsu

Advice to Senior ManagementLattice needs to continue to increase resource deployment in differentiated products where they have a clear technological advantage over their competitors

Research and Development Engineer (Current Employee) Alabang (Philippines)

Prosthe company is still small and possess big opportunity to grow specially with incoming new product. Lattice gave bonuses according to company's performance. The culture is similar with Intel as most of the manager came from intel.. They value balance life effectively

Conslimited resources specially for technical growth.

Advice to Senior Managementinvest in employees tecnical growth and exposure.

    Massive disappointment

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsRelatively good STARTING salary, beautiful building and facilities, subsidized cafeteria

ConsCompletely disconnected management - all the signs of desperation, chasing after any opportunity that may come the company's way in order to hopefully save it from impending failure - while at the same time providing NO corporate guidance, or worse yet, consistently wrong decisions. The company is attempting to cut all engineering and operations costs by way of layoffs and outsourcing, while at the same time continuing to bring in high paid upper management. There is only so far that the "soft economy" argument can go. At some point you have to have a solid plan to deliver to your customers. And this company does not have it.

Advice to Senior ManagementThis is not a private company and you should not be allowed to continue to line your pockets at the expense of the employees busting their rears achieving results that will never see the light of day because this company has no clue what to produce or who it can sell it to. Resign. You've done enough damage.

    Intel light

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsNice facilities, decent work/life balance compared to other tech companies, good pay and benefits, relative lack of bureaucracy, quick decision making. Lots of smart people at all levels of the company.

ConsTurnover in executive management over past 5 years, the current team has lots of ex-Intel execs who seem dismissive of employees with non-Intel backgrounds. The hackneyed stories that pass as motivational tools at all employee meetings. Career opportunities somewhat limited due to size of the company.
