Laura Secord

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
Ottawa, ON (Canada)

I have been working at Laura Secord part-time for less than a year

ProsGood discount, easy work, 50% off days around the holidays, overall a fun place to have a part time job! Easy to find ways to stand out by making sure you keep the store clean, stocked and presentable. After 2 months working there I am already akeyholder and closing and opening by myself.

ConsYou are dealing with the public directly as a csr so other than the odd complaint about the size of the scoop (which is a regulation scoop) or complaints about the prices there is nothing exceedingly difficult.

Good first job

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Mississauga, ON (Canada)

I worked at Laura Secord part-time for more than 3 years

ProsGetting to try out ice cream and chocolates (and eat as much of it as you can when the boss isn't looking)

ConsIf you want us to upsell, we should be getting incentives/rewards for it

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter pay for your retail staff

Very unorganized and very bad communication from Upper management

Sales Associate (Current Employee)

I have been working at Laura Secord for more than a year

ProsThe best chocolate and ice cream around. Amazing loyal customers.

ConsDistrict managers do not listen to employee concerns. They expect far too much from sales associates and give nothing for incentives.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to what we are telling you. We are the ones that work in the store. We know what our customers want. Each store has different needs.

I loved me co-workers, but the company itself was not good.

Cashier (Former Employee)
Toronto, ON (Canada)

I worked at Laura Secord part-time for more than 3 years

ProsChocolates! Ice cream! Fun working environment

ConsIt always felt like head office was trying to take advantage of its employees. After 4 years I never made more than minimum wage. I also heard about a time a complaint was made about a manager to head office. It was promised that this complaint would be kept anonymous. However the individual working at head office was friends with the manager, told her about the complaint, and shortly after the employee who made the complaint was fired. Not good business!

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect and value you staff. If you make them feel appreciated, they will be less likely to up and leave, as so many did.

My Job Experience at Laura Secord was dissatisfiying

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Laura Secord

ProsYou get to work with Ice Cream and Chocolate all day.

ConsIn my experience there, I was not able for advancement, they were going to promote me then took it away with no reasoning. You have to wait 1 full year from either hire day or promotion to full time for benifits. In the loction I was at the manager was very unproffessoinal told everyone my personal business. Also pretty much made me choose between my job and my child.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
