I have been working at Lauren Engineers full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Since the day I got here, there has been absolutely nothing good to say about this company. I truly wish I could drum up something, but it's been complete hell since I arrived. As soon as I can secure another job, I'm gone

    Cons

Threatened with job constantly; dropped objects a constant hazard and not addressed by safety personnel; yelled at when trying to take a cool-down break in extreme heat; company cares more about timeline for work than workers health and safety. Management has no issues with yelling at other employees in front of everyone and firing them loudly in front of everyone.

    Advice to Management

Not sure who is in charge of the management at this location (HollyFrontier Refinery, El Dorado, KS), but you should really think about making a surprise visit there and TALK to the employees about the way they are treated and how someone is going to die from a heat stroke before it's all over with. Oh, and someone mentioned their "christian values" in an earlier review? Well, that apparently didn't carry over on to this job. Large amounts of people dragging up should tell management that they are doing something wrong.

    Pros

they promote a great family atmosphere and have a strong community involvement. I enjoy the Christian mission and values they embrace.

    Cons

Management of people needs improvement in handling and promoting employees, direction is not clear and regional offices can conflict with corporate.

    Advice to Management

Benefits are good but not great, could see improvement in vacation and profit sharing. Leadership needs a better handle on assessing talent and managing people.

    Pros

Dependable, Care about there employees. Excellent training opportunities. Good pay.

    Cons

    Pros

I truly enjoyed my job at Lauren's corporate office; respected my supervisor and coworkers.

    Cons

I was at the company when downsizing occurred and some of the decisions were difficult. The company did; however, make every effort to keep employees informed of the situation and to act ethically.

    Advice to Management

Lauren is a great example of leadership coming from the top. Great ethics and a Christian attitude! Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Lauren Engineers (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are good and ability to learn. There is truly not too much good to say about Lauren Canada. Work here if you are a contractor/engineer only. Or if you are in desperate need of a job and then leave as soon as you can.

    Cons

Contractors rule this company in Canada. They are in lead positions and are treated better than employees. There is weak management / lack of leadership at all levels of this organization. People are promoted to a level of incompetence and it extends into the executive leadership group. Leaders do not give direction but take it from their subordinates. They then take credit for the work of their team as a means of self-promotion throughout the organization. There are no development opportunities or training activities.

    Advice to Management

Start investing money into your employees, turn contractors into employees, be stronger leaders, start listening more and act on the advice. Make clearer decisions and respect Canadians. You want to work in Canada but to not respect Canadian values, culture or our laws. You try to press American laws and culture onto Canadians. You are working in Canada, act like you care at least.

I have been working at Lauren Engineers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some wonderful people in mid management and operations, with good knowledge of industry standards, and experienced enough to know what works and what does not.

    Cons

Senior leaders from the US micromanage Canadian operations. Canadian leaders unable to make decisions for the company. No communication, no transparency, no direction. Decision makers are not those in position of authority, left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. Leaders overwrite each other decisions without rhyme or reason, undermining each other and creating an environment of chaos and uncertainty. US leaders are absent, do not know how to run a business in Canada, attempt to treat employees the same way they do in the US and CEO makes racist comments about aboriginal people and foreign workers. They need sensitivity training.

    Advice to Management

Listen and respect employees comments and concerns. If you hire a leader because you believe he/she has the skills to move the organization forward, allow them to do so, the Canadian way: By respecting multiculturalism, acknowledging and promoting talent, by empowering management, by paying decent salaries to the labor force.
