    Pros

    Open top down communication, focus on positive and inspiring culture, promote from within, cross-training, supportive of families and work life balance.

    Cons

    Some indecision at upper management level can make for inefficiencies at the "worker" level.

    Advice to Management

    Culture change takes time but you're on the right path. Make decisions and stick with them.

    Pros

    Good Products and people at corporate that care but often are unable to help due to policies.

    Cons

    100% commission. 100% funded by you no gas, car, clothing, entertainment, or other reimbursement. Push you to purchase samples to show customers but you have to buy the samples and pay shipping. Prices higher than competitors in the same market. YOUR commission has to be cut in order to get sales and then it hardly pays to go to customers due to automotive expenses.

    Advice to Management

    Give all reps car allowances like you do in California. Look at pricing in different markets and lower them without starving out the salesperson. Get the managers to learn the complete sales process from cold call to install and maintain so they can support the sales force. I mean ALL the managers DSM to national. Choose samples to send o reps that everyone can sell then send enough to give out to customer to try. Your profit margin is plenty high to be able to do this.

    Flexible Schedule, ability to make extra commission

    Cons

    Use of personal vehicle, no fuel reimbursement, out of pocket expenses with no help from upper management, upper management lack of knowledge and know how.

    Advice to Management

    Hire more skilled DSM and RSM. Allow for company vehicle to reps and fuel expense. You cannot expect the reps to take 100 percent of the risk.

    Lawson Products is a great company for any motivator sales person.

    Pros

    Great local management. Plenty of freedom.

    Cons

    Poor business practices. The people in accounting have no people skills.

    Pull your heads out of your you know what.

    Pros

    Management recognizes that everyone in the company depends on the success of the sales reps in the field. Quality products, excellent service and fill rates. New system gives reps ability to set prices locally to ensure they are competitive.

    Cons

    One separate department is used to source all special orders instead of staff who are familiar with particular product categories or vendors.

    Pros

    Over the last few years the Company has made numerous investments that have led to improved financial performance and made the Company a better place to work. The Company is dedicated to growing and educating its sales force, as well as investing in the career paths of office employees. The overall work environment continues to become a more collaborative, team oriented approach.

    There are still some aspects of job that could be more efficient, however, the Company is focused on continuous improvement of all job functions and operations.

    Pros

    Many changes that had to be made to bring the company to the world class levels it can be. We are makign progress each dayt and most of the transistions are behind us. We are now growing our team, our sales, and building career paths for many new hires. It is an excitiing place to work

    Still rebuilding from the many positive changes that have happened.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to invest in the sales team - many new hires in the last 3 years have to become industry experts, as we lost a lot of knowledge in the past few years. You have it going - stay committed

    Pros

    The company is growing which leads to future opportunities at many levels. If a sales rep stays with the structure of demonstrating products on every call they can earn commissions much higher than normal. You can place bins and cabinets at no charge which helps customers and the sales force. Organizing a shop and labeling everything makes it easy for repeat business.

    Cons

    The outside sales position is hard work, but for those willing to stay with it, they will earn a great income. Its easy to be become an order taker but if you do, your income will suffer
