I worked at Lazard Asset Management

    Pros

There is a great opportunity to work with people from abroad.

    Cons

many people seem to weigh in, and in this day and age compliance is more important than personal freedoms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

there are a few in the ranks that are vocal against people of differing lifestyles. I think the company could do well to really promote acceptance in these areas.

  3.

I worked at Lazard Asset Management part-time

    Pros

Amazing culture with extremely intelligent people. Everyone is very kind and always willing to help when you're in need. There is so much flexibility and you are given options if you are wanting to move across to a different group within asset management. Everyone works as a team to achieve mutual goals and to become a very successful firm.

    Cons

I have nothing negative to say.

Terrible - very low quality research done at the Firm, it's basically a sales machine

I worked at Lazard Asset Management

    Pros

For some reason, it has a decent name in investment management, especially global investing. Compensation is in line with much better investment management firms.

    Cons

Management never worked in research, so the leaders of the firm are sales and operations people, not investors. That leads to a culture where process is unimportant, and shortcuts to strong performance are taken. Of course, there are no effective long-term shortcuts in investment management, so the best people leave and the mediocre people do whatever they can to stay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some time thinking about what works long-term in the industry and what does not. When you hire, try to understand how passionate potential employees are about the job

I worked at Lazard Asset Management

    Pros

    Intelligent, amicable people
Entrepreneurial spirit, ability to take on new projects, suggest changes/improvements to operations, etc, because of the relatively small size of the firm

    Cons

There are many inefficiencies regarding IT and intranet services.
Lazard expects a lot more from employees than what's laid out in the job description (which can be good if you're willing to take on new/more work and/or learn more about the firm/industry)

I have been working at Lazard Asset Management

    Pros

Flexible hours, fairly flexible about taking time off in addition to what is in your contract. Fluid structure, definitely an open door policy i.e. a junior sales associate can call up the head of Research and it the Research head will be totally engaging, hop on a conference call for your clients, etc. Senior management is awesome about getting on calls, answering questions, sharing their knowledge.

    Cons

Management is TERRIBLE. Total lack of communication in the firm of what is going on, i.e. if a strategy is closing / opening. Employees have no idea what the focus of the firm is, management never follows through with their promises. There is room for growth but it takes FOREVER and you need to make sure you have a mentor, someone that will be your champion and go to bat for you. Very disorganized, management seems to be constantly flying by the seat of their pants with no direction what so ever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to manage. Reward your best employees with bigger bonuses instead of letting them all jump ship.

I worked at Lazard Asset Management

    Pros

    Hours are pretty good
    Office location is fantastic
The company pays for the CFA exams

    Cons

Would have preferred more collaboration and more variety
Some opacity surrounding compensation with some bonuses linked to several years' work

I have been working at Lazard Asset Management full-time

    Pros

Great people, lean culture, many learning opportunities if you are willing to be flexible and do more

    Cons

Salar and bonus on the lower range in the industry, little structure in career advancement

I worked at Lazard Asset Management

    Pros

Good Brand name on Wall Street. Firm has prestige for a smaller bank.

    Cons

Morale was low during the IPO. There was a lot of negativity between the old guard nad the new guard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been out of there for awhile but I have heard that some things have improved. Hopefully, the portfolio managers are now stronger.
