    Sinking boat

    Manager (Current Employee)
    Emeryville, CA

ProsGood place for a starter to learn and work on various things.

ConsExtremely unorganized, unrealistic deadlines and expectation from Management . Lack of transparency and lot of favoritism. Lack of family life due to lot of work pressure this is only in IT.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the employees and stop the favoritism.

It's been a roller coaster ride!

    (Current Employee)
    Emeryville, CA

ProsFun place to work, great brand, terrific products, awesome people and the new leadership at the top (CEO-John Barbour) really understands what it will take to turn this company around and make LeapFrog great again. The morale here has improved significantly since John has taken over and there is a lot of positive momentum being generated.

ConsToo much turnover in the past with constant changes and restructuring.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the positive momentum going! We are producing some terrific products with the some of the best educational content in the market place. We absolutely blow our competitors away and there's no reason why LeapFrog shouldn't be doing better.

    Better Forgotten Experience

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Emeryville, CA

ProsThere are some talented caring people who do their jobs and have pride in their products.

ConsLeadership is misplaced. They do not know the subject matter that they are left to make decisions for, and manage. This causes chaos for the people they manage, and cause the leadership to have to hide the bodies and create the facade of doing work.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire sold leadership that is clear on all aspects of the business they will manage. For example - do not hire a traditional marcom person to manage a web team.

    Functionally diverse, strategically struggling

    Product Manager (Current Employee)
    Emeryville, CA

ProsStrong creative bent - most of the creative and product development functions are held in house and people are driven and excellent. Strong brands, great products, a lot of passion and fun within the workplace. Strong emphasis on worklife balance

ConsStrategically, LF has had some issues finding secure footing and this trickles into how the day to day business management is taken into place. The focus on innovation is in conflict with managing a secure bread and butter business.

Advice to Senior ManagementStrongly partner business development with an innovations team and continue to communicate the future direction of the company to employees

Someone get me off this lily pad

    Director (Former Employee)
    Emeryville, CA

ProsGreat brand recognition and mission of the company.
    Interesting problems to solve.
Opportunity to really make a difference in product development.

ConsSenior management was clueless, especially senior engineering management.
Binge/purge culture - lately, mostly purge.
No clear communication about the path to success for the company.
Absolute dearth of new, innovative ideas - all the creative people were let go, many brought back as consultants because the company had no clue what to do next.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a leader, make some decisions, and have some guts. Or shut the doors.
Don't just hire Apple cast-offs and hope they will do something interesting.
