    I worked at LeapFrog full-time

    Pros

The working staff are trying so hard to maintain a family environment and participate in the madness

    Cons

Upper Management is out of touch with reality, has mid-management that has not clue how to communicate or play favorites with contractor.

    Advice to Management

Clean up your middle management and a new sr, directors that has no clue how to manage people or processes in a large retail environment.

    Pros

Beggars work in this place. It looked like the director had gotten every guy from his village to board a bus, packed some d abbas and had just landed there. They laugh at women who work there and harass them. I was a victim of that.. I just didn't have enough material to sue.. oops..is this the pro section

    Cons

    Oh my...what can I say

    Advice to Management

    file for bankruptcy and vacate

I have been working at LeapFrog full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Worthy mission. Some good people. Summers you get to leave early on Fridays. Starbucks on the same block as HQ. Easy to reach from SF (just across the bridge).

    Cons

Terrible leadership at VP and above. No innovation. Poor brand practices. Create things because they can not because their customers want them. Antiquated product development thinking; fixated on making physical widgets instead of full solutions and services that integrate HW/SW and the cloud. No handle on who their true customers are. Not enough weight given to research, consumer insights, and performance metrics. No long-term strategic thinking. As most recent quarterly miss and last two years show, inability to read their own business accurately. Worse, people in charge don't realize how bad things are: utter lack of self awareness. Director and below employees often get overruled and are not empowered to make decisions or mistakes.

    Advice to Management

Step down for the good of the employees. Let innovators, brand experts, technologists and true executive leaders take over and remake this company from top to bottom.

    I worked at LeapFrog full-time

    Pros

passionate people - met some wonderful folks at this company. Objective of making toys and games for kids is great.

    Cons

old white guys who worked in the toys business in 1980 somehow got in charge of the company - and don't know what to do (openly, if you listen to the early 2015 investor call) to fix it. They "follow" companies who used to be competitors, tossed out a ton of creative people and everyone who ever worked at Apple.. .the bottom is falling out. Stay away.

    Advice to Management

Advice to the board - get rid of the CEO and CMO, and bring in someone from Edu/Tech.

I have been working at LeapFrog full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

LeapFrog is a really respected brand by consumers. Everyone is really dedicated to making high quality products and people really believe in the mission of helping kids learn. The "rank and file" are great people and are a lot of fun to be around.

    Cons

Senior management (C-level execs) are running the company into the ground. Decisions are made at the top only and yet there is no accountability for the bad decisions they have made - instead they blame the middle level managers (for decisions that the C-level execs made). They have no strategy and no way to turn the company's poor recent performance around. How they are still running the show is a mystery to pretty much everyone, especially since we just had layoffs and none of them were let go. They are also horrific at managing people and there is zero focus on employee growth and development. Additionally this place is an old boys club - there is a real glass ceiling for women, and women are treated differently than men (i.e. a woman being forceful or brutally honest is being "difficult," whereas a man doing the same thing is just "telling it like it is"). In the recent layoffs, the majority of the people laid off were women (some of whom are on maternity leave, many of whom are working mothers who had been "mommytracked") - not sure how that's legal, but somehow they're getting away with it. Net net, stay far away, at least until the executive team turns over and someone takes the company in a new direction.

    Advice to Management

Look at where you're located - near Silicon Valley - and start realizing you're competing with what those companies have to offer, which includes career growth opportunities, flex work schedules, etc. And start taking accountability for your mistakes - pretty much the entire company sees through you right now, and most people have lost significant respect for all of you given the way you run the company and particularly the way you treat the employees.

    Pros

The people are great and are super passionate. Different teams have pretty good work/life balance.

    Cons

No strategy or direction is concerning. Promotions rarely happen and only when necessary to show face.

I have been working at LeapFrog full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Have you ever wanted to work at a company where everyone was super nice? Genuinely so? LeapFrog is the 7th company I've worked at and is definitely the nicest place to be. Everyone is there for the mission and really cares about 'doing right' by the company. It's full of amazingly talented people who are passionate about the products we make. The collaboration is fantastic, as is the creativity and energy.

    Cons

The current leadership doesn't know where to take the company and doesn't look forward beyond the current year. This is debilitating for a company that used to be known for innovation and leadership in children's educational products. They are from retail, not product development. They are mismanaging the company and slowly eroding the brand's equity. The company needs innovative, strategic thinkers, like the previous management team, led by Jeff Katz.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond the current fiscal year and think about developing a 3 year plan, along with a corresponding investment plan to deliver. This isn't a retail company, where you can source product from others. We develop our own product - or at least we used to.

I worked at LeapFrog full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great brand name Summer hours (if you can take advantage of it)

    Cons

Your job description will be different from the one that you have interviewed Low salary Horrible management overall (top to bottom) All promotions are VERY political Lots of finger pointing, especially from lower to upper management Backstabbing culture Very old technology A "Do Nothing" HR department Company needs better qualified management teams!!!

    Advice to Management

Stop saving a penny here and a penny there, because this will drive engineering cost up (a lot) Take action on the list of issues from company meeting Needs better product road map (not just developing three variance of the same product)
