    Great first job

    Supervisor (Current Employee)
    Roseville, CA

    ProsWelcoming Environment
    Fun place to work
More "human" than big box stores

This was my first job and I was able to move up easily. The people I worked with worked with me and worked like a family. Not much (if any) headbutting

ConsIt's retail. You'll deal with a variety of customers. The good, the bad, the memorable (in one way or another). Don't let this discourage you though. This is a great company to work for

Advice to Senior ManagementA little more training in special events could be beneficial. Also, maybe more opportunity for advancement would be beneficial and encouraging to employees.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Great experience!

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)

    Pros- Friendly managers and co-workers
    - Constant customer interaction
    - Many different job skills learned (operating register, phone skills, communication skills, inventory, merchandising, filing reports... the list goes on)
    - FOOD! Someone always brought in some type of yummy snack to share :)

Cons- Gets boring when the store is slow
    - Minimum wage (unless you move up or have been there for a long time)

    Very disappointing

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsNo pros really...
Got to play with toys sometimes

ConsEmployees all treated and spoken to like idiots all day every day
    No raises ever or advancement
Management and especially the owners were so disrespectful.
I have seen many employees cry because of the way they were treated.
Really quite the depressing work environment considering it was supposed to be a happy fun place

Advice to Senior ManagementStop acting like snotty rude 15 year olds (no offense to 15 year olds)
Try APPRECIATING your employees for a job well done. A simple "thank you" goes a long way.

Learning Express is as fun as it sounds.

    Toy Expert (Former Employee)
    Pembroke Pines, FL

ProsWorking at Learning Express is a great opportunity to learn proper customer service. They encourage creativity and interpersonal skills with custom toy personalization so it's a great place to work if you love drawing or painting. They also teach you gift wrapping: I can proudly wrap a gift in 60 seconds or less. They also encourage you to get to know the merchandise so you can give good suggestions to customers walking in which means playing with a lot of toys. Working here was very fun and stimulating.

ConsAfter you've tried all the demos it can get a little mundane, especially in the summer months. Toy stores tend to experience really heavy season fluctuations. Depending on the location it can get pretty boring during the down season and insanely busy during the winter holiday season. Some customers can be very demanding because the products tend to be overpriced.

Good resume material and started great but overall disappointing.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Upper Montclair, NJ

Pros- Gave me a decent background in retail experience to put on a resume.
    - Being able to do activity/fun days and the like was always something to look forward to.
    - I had wonderful coworkers who I still keep in touch with.

Cons- Taking off for any reason was nearly impossible. The manager almost always refused to give up their personal time to help employees who need off for significant reasons. Even if you ask for just one or two days off in a month WAY in advance, you still probably won't get off.
    - The owner cares even less about the employees.
    - It is difficult to advance/receive a raise.
    - Even if you work hard, you will still often feel like your job is on the line.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees with respect. Don't make them feel expendable. And do NOT talk about the employees behind their backs; we all knew that you did it and it did not make us feel valued.

    Fun, Energetic Place to Work

    Store Associate (Current Employee)
    Pittsburgh, PA

ProsI worked here while in college, the owner (my boss) was very flexible with scheduling. Very high emphasis on customer service and making customers feel special. Everyone that I worked with was also very nice and outgoing.

ConsI was told there would be a pay raise after 6 months, and there wasn't. Customers sometimes take advantage of the customer-service policies.
