I have been working at Learning and Skills Council

    Pros

good company. a place to be in this financial crisis times. besides that the LSC is known for delivering and meeting targets. the lsc also supports staff, train them by sending them out for training. the lsc prides itself in exceeding targets set by the government.
the compensation and benefits package is great
employee morale is very high as there is flexibility in so many areas
when staff perform well there is some sort of recognition also
the senior management team is very much focused and vision driven
if you work hard and smart, you will sure get recognised and your promotion will be rapid.
    no racial issues whatsoever!

    Cons

Management development was a little on the poor side, but the business was making strides to become more commercial.

I worked at Learning and Skills Council full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Most of my colleagues were great team mates and extremely hard working.

    Cons

Changed their practices to suit themselves rather than being more consistent and transparent.

Some great people at all levels desperately trying to work an impossible bureaucracy

I worked at Learning and Skills Council

    Pros

Dedicated staff, important agenda for skills, significant budgets, important partnering opportunities, national career opportunities, willing managers, benefits package, work life balance focus.

    Cons

The way it was set up makes it almost unmanageable and constant restructuring meant it lost credibility with its employees and partners and the organisations it was funding and contracting with. Great shame to waste very capable and well qualified employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shorten the decision making routes, give clearer accountability at all levels and really cut trhough the bureaucracy which is genuinely unworkable.
