    Pros

excellent benefits program and sick/personal/vacation time. generally nice work environment.

    Cons

pay could be better, but for a non-profit organization, it is pretty good.

This is a wonderful organization to work for, the corporate culture is one of genuine concern for their staff.

I have been working at Legal Services of New Jersey full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The satisfaction of working for an organization that makes a difference in the lives of those most vulnerable in society. Being part of a team of dedicated professionals. Corporate culture really values staff's personal lives and makes arrangements to accommodated personal responsibilities where possible. Truly is a cross gender and culture work environment.

    Cons

Commuting in the central New Jersey area is difficult. Traffic is always heave during normal rush hour and if there is an accident or any kind of disruption in traffic patterns, traffic comes to a halt. There can be a significant amount of micromanagement depending on the project you work in.

    Advice to Management

Senior management needs should look for ways to empower staff to be more self sufficient, making decisions without the continual involvement of others where possible. Some of the procedures should be streamlined to alleviate strains on productivity, such as time recording burdens.

    Pros

It's a great place to go if you're a student and you're looking for some extra cash and experience. The attorneys there are all nice, low stress environment, and you get to speak with lots of inspiring people

    Cons

The actual intake process is pretty long. You have to memorize lots of different protocols and deal with high call volumes. Some of the discussions you end up having with your clients can also be emotionally taxing.

    Advice to Management

More effort to develop office culture and unity would go a long way to improve morale.

I worked at Legal Services of New Jersey full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The work you do is very rewarding for those less fortunate than you.

    Cons

Too many VP's who do nothing but are quick to have an opinion of what should be done with an employee. Unfortunately, due to Statewide cutbacks (financially) a lot of good people were let go.

    Advice to Management

Treat youir employees better and listen to what they are telling you instead of what the VP's think is going on.

I have been working at Legal Services of New Jersey full-time

    Pros

Wonderful colleagues, family oriented, compassionate CEO. The company has a great mission. Helping the less fortunate is commendable. There are many departments offering legal assistance, advice and expertise, offering resources and insight to the community. Clients receive assistance with housing, food, clothing. The company attempts to fully advocate for clients: helping with housing, food, clothing, shelter. et al

    Cons

This place will give you just enough rope to hang yourself. Despite how ethically we may act toward the clients, ethics are foregone between management and staff. The better you perform, the more work you get. No increase in pay in 6 years. Multiple employees left burnt out and the rest on anti-anxiety meds. If you are overwhelmed, that is considered your problem and yours alone. No one wants to hear what your needs are, where you are lacking...the expectations placed on employees coupled with the workload is unreal and your inability to keep up is your fault

    Advice to Management

Listen to the colleagues that you seem to regard as minions. Management is not supportive of most staff. There needs to be better training regarding the daily functions and expectations in order to make the process streamlined and work product consistent amongst employees. Rather than simply have new employees shadow the 3 employees management likes, there needs to be a training--one standard that is presented to all to understand.

I have been working at Legal Services of New Jersey full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Great mission - Family oriented - Good co-workers - Well established agency - Fairly goods benefits package - though not what it used to be.

    Cons

    - No upward mobility - No financial reward - Low moral with no obvious intervention from management - High turn-over in the last two years - Those left are incredibly over worked due to the turn-over - Flagrant Favoritism / bordering on inappropriate

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your employees, the good ones are hurting and want to leave.

    Pros

Wonderful place to work and learn. Everyone fully supports and encourages each other, and you don't see the negative aspects (over-competition) of a typical law office.

    Cons

You may not get paid as much here as you would if you went to a big firm or a corporation.

    Advice to Management

Can't really think of anything negative to say here; I'm overall very satisfied with my job and really enjoy working alongside my peers.

    Pros

They are very family oriented, they try to always make their employees feel wanted and appreciated. It is a very nice company to work for.

    Cons

Due to the current budget cuts there is a salary freeze. I wish we didn't depend on government grants alone.

    Advice to Management

Offer some incentives to make up for the salary freeze. Maybe increase the rate of vacation accrual, until the freeze is over.
