I have been working at Lehigh Hanson as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great company!!! Really amazing management. It was a pleasure to intern at this company. I really enjoyed the experience. You get exposed to a lot of different technologies and get to learn a lot. This company is actually part of a much larger corporation Heidelberg Cement Group, which employs 50,000+ employees worldwide. So, working in the IT division you get to work with a lot of different ERP technologies.

    Cons

As with any IT at large companies, it takes time to get access to items because of the sensitive information IT controls.

I have been working at Lehigh Hanson full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Free goodies like sodas and snacks and free lunch for end month close if you work in Accounting.

    Cons

Personal / sick time is up to you manager so it could be really good or not good at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay is good but life balance is important and to establish a good personal/ sick time policy should be a priority.

I have been working at Lehigh Hanson full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Like every job, it depends on what part of the organization you are in, but Lehigh in general is pretty average for the industry, with some portions much better, and very few worse.

    Cons

Restructures itself a lot, with acquisitions in the late 2000's. Too much dependence on reports and checklists, and not enough eyes/feet in the field to verify. Corporate is a bit detached, luckily many of the groups are good at independence, and work despite Corporate's issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out into your plants, and stop relying on what some report or email is telling you is happening. And, not just a silly "plant tour" guided by the area manager. Veer off, go left when they go right, and peek behind doors. You need to see the field and talk to the people, not just go out on a parade route.

    Pros

    Amazing IT management Team
    Amazing Technical Leads
    Fun co-workers
    Great place to learn
    Weekly Pay
    Outside Events
    Understands need for upgrades

    Cons

    Benefits could be much better
Pay is too low for what is expected
KB needs a LOT of work
    No Structure to training

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are doing a great job leading the company, but spend more money on benefits packages and pay. This way you keep more people.

I have been working at Lehigh Hanson

    Pros

It has a great benefits package and the people are great to work for. They are family orientated and consider their employees their best asset.

    Cons

They have to report to management in the home office way to much, just to get approvals to purchase trivial items regularily needed for job function

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to keep memo's and useless meeting to a minimum. All they tend to do is prevent employees from doing their jobs.

I have been working at Lehigh Hanson

    Pros

Great learning experience. Great tuition reimbursement policy. Really great coworkers, they are all very intelligent and hardworking. Flexible schedule as long as you attempt to put in your 40 hours in and don't make a habbit of missing work.

    Cons

Direct supervisor has little to do with wage increases. No appreciation for personal sacrifices. No room for advancement at this location. Corporate makes decisions and implements policies without including the individual locations. They act as if your skills and knowledge of your job are useless. They expect you to work extremely hard on poorly planned projects that are geared towards eliminating your position. Side note: The environment is very bad for your car's paint.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees when they have something to say. Put yourself in their shoes. Reward GOOD behavior and hardwork, not whinning and complaining. Make sure that everyone is being treated equally. Send HR to some morale boosting seminars!

I have been working at Lehigh Hanson full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good environment overall--company cares about it's people in general; good opportunity to move around

    Cons

Depending on the department you work in...overtime, time off may be an issue, however can be negotiated--overall fair

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management should consider approaching front line staff on a regular basis--(like the undercover boss approach). You may be surprised at what you find...some middle management may tend to "candy-coat" issues in their particular department
