Pros
people, compensation, mobility, colleagues were fun and smart
Cons
bankruptcy, management risk, lean teams led to lower mentorship
Pros
Lehman Brothers was a proud organisation, proactive, with a can do attitude to risk taking and client service. However risk management was not good.
Cons
My experience is tainted somewhat, as I was there during the default phase, which meant that focus was all regulatory focussed not client.
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing more to say really given the company h a s now closed. RIP to the Lehmann Bros....good luck to my former colleagues.
Pros
Great benefits
Care for employees
Good work environment
Great Co-Workers
Great Charity Work
Integrity was a big deal
Office events was encouraged
Cons
Average Leadership
Limited opportunity for promotions
Clicks within the work environment
Sometimes uncomfortable work environment
Routine work
Inability to keep talented employees
Advice to Senior Management
Average Leadership that eventually led to the downfall of the company. There should be a mentor system that fosters loyalty within the employee ranks
Pros
Working with some of the brightest people in the industry.
Cons
Since Bankrupcty, promotions and raises are not offered to those individuals who have shown progression and devotion to the cause. Performance reviews are not conducted.
Pros
Good people, many of them went to Nomura or Barclays. You had the opportunity to travel internationally and intercontinental. Very good international cooperation.
Cons
Long hours, hard charging, but then, that's an investment bank. The IT departments of the different business lines had a bit of a competition going, and that was not always pleasant.
Advice to Senior Management
Shoulda done a better job.
Pros
Over several years, Lehman became a wonderful place to work and make lifelong friends. It's a shame that it couldn't be saved.
Cons
Promotion process is political. Ideas are always not accepted.
Advice to Senior Management
Should have had more effective promotion process.
Pros
great partnership culture; great people to work with; a real sense of focus and teamwork in all aspects of the company.
Cons
too much focus on short term; over extension of balance sheet; inability of senior NY management to hear the word "no" and understand it.
Advice to Senior Management
the operations and support functions needed to find a stronger voice to resist the siren song of increased risk and leverage
Pros
Great Benefits ,Great Culture,Diversified. I enjoyed management and the company was very laid back
Cons
Long Hours
Hard to move up
Advice to Senior Management
It was the best bank
Pros
-Extremely fast-track in terms of compensation growth
-Strong encouragement to learn and gain certifications
-People who work there were the best part of Lehman
Cons
-Work can become monotonous after the learning curve levels
-Working with demanding clients can be challenging
-Tough to move from mid/back-office to front-office roles
Advice to Senior Management
Provide more open lines of communication from the trenches so that ideas flow more readily. This will facilitate process improvements, etc...
Pros
it was a great internship program. i had wanted to work at lehman for a very long time. they have a great culture.
Cons
interned here right before it collapsed, which was unfortunate for me. i did not get an offer to return. go figure.
Advice to Senior Management
its unfortunate that the company collapsed that summer. i wish management had done something, obviously, so then i could have gotten a full time offer.
