Pros
Best and most professional technology group.
Cons
NA The company no longer exists
Advice to Senior Management
Please consider hiring former Lehman employees in your future assignments, especially the IT personnel, who were extremely professional and savvy.
Pros
Lots of food around the office. Fast elevators to whisk you in and out. Some great people around to work with.
Cons
Aside from working at the flashpoint of the subprime financial meltdown, it's the incredibly political, aggressive environment. It's the kind of job you don't really need to think about.
Advice to Senior Management
Give something back.
Pros
People loved the green culture at Lehman Brothers, pay was good and firm had a great reputation which lead to opportunities
Cons
Senior management was mostly incompetent as is now obvious. working there was highly hierarchical in nature, lack of respect for junior employees
Advice to Senior Management
Well first off, i wouldn't invest so heavily in structured credit products that you do not understand. second maybe you should have taken the buyout at a fair price before the bankruptcy
Pros
Great facilities and amenities made it an enjoyable place to work. Good platform for communication among employees and full of hardworking people with diverse backgrounds.
Cons
Lack of enforcement of responsibilities for senior management. Inefficient organizational structure that lacks accountability. Lack of face to face interactions.
Advice to Senior Management
Needed to reorganize organizational structure to ensure efficiency and transparency between divisions. More cooperation between senior management, traders, middle and back offices in person would have been helpful
Pros
Worked with Lehman d for almost 4 years got very well but made me lazy as a network manager, you get to direct others so you don't have to do it yourself
Cons
they went bankrupt leaving me unemployed , but for the most part it was a great place to work nice people great pay
Advice to Senior Management
Should have held the place together and taken a bailout , and we would still have jobs i think ,
Pros
Good culture, surrounded by bright people. Good work life balance. The pay is comparable to other investment firms.
Cons
It's in bankruptcy now. Majority of legacy Lehman in New York is now part of BarCap.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work, be aware of the risk.
Pros
I only worked there for 1 week before the company went bankrupt, but most of the senior managemnet was really impressive. the job paid well and the recent grads in my program were nice, smart, and for the most part humble
Cons
I worked there for only 1 week is the obvious one. Second would be that the company obviously had some serious issues
Advice to Senior Management
I don't really have a great perspective on this; again I was there for only 5 days. On the whole, management was impressive and the training program was thorough
Pros
Truly great culture, good people, ethical and cooperative behavior at the mid-management level
Cons
Remember that stock you got for your bonus? Yeah. Not so much.
Advice to Senior Management
VAR.. maybe we really didn't need to jack up the VAR more, despite what you said.
Pros
looked great on resume. i learned a lot about financial marketing, industry players, and key executive people. nice location to work, and the mentorship programs was nice too.
Cons
well, it tanked. it could not be that great of a company if it had to close. some upper management were cocky. other times, it felt like the old boy network. if you are a woman, you have to work extra hard to prove your worth
Advice to Senior Management
well, you guys dont exist any more. so my advice is to find another job and dont mess up the next organization.
Pros
The culture was great. They hired the best and the brightest, and I worked with some of the most talented engineers and managers that I ever encountered. We were encouraged to take an entrepreneurial approach to our work in IT, and were rewarded for it when the system or app generated revenue or furthered the business' objectives.
There was great opportunity to network thru several diversity groups. Training and education was encouraged and readily available. They fully supported work-life balance and work from home (job - permitting, of course).
The work was hard, the hours were long, and the rewards were great. At the end of a day, I left the office exhausted and proud of what my team accomplished. It was the best 10 years of my working career. I met and worked with some remarkable individuals and established professional and personal friendships with people I will treasure, always.
Cons
Biggest downside: The bankruptcy. It is incredibly sad. Barclays should have been a silver lining, but sadly, the great things about Lehman and it's culture did not carry over after the acquisition.
Advice to Senior Management
I'm with you in wishing the clock could be stopped or rolled back to before the collapse. I wish it could have gone on forever.
