I worked at Lehman Brothers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management listened. Stuff got done. Bureaucracy was minimized.

    Cons

They levered up on real estate and went bankrupt.

    Advice to Management

Don't bet the entire firm on the views of three people and keep it a secret from your employees.

    Pros

At the forefront of technology. The company was years ahead of others in terms of technology.

    Cons

I had seen many people leave and come back with higher salaries and titles, but other who stuck around did not see the same type of promotions and raises.

I worked at Lehman Brothers full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great company and culture. people were very smart and approachable

    Cons

Disparity in salaries. There was no consistency at all. TDP growth was slow and had wired HR rules about how much salary bounce one could get.

    Advice to Management

    wish Lehman was still around

I worked at Lehman Brothers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Cutting edge when it comes to technology. Used to be some great people to work with. What else can you say about a company that no longer exists?

    Cons

We all know how this story ended. As the company grew, employees needs mattered less and less. It became a numbers game and employees were treated as such... a replaceable number. If you worked less than 50-60 hours a week, you were viewed as a slacker.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect and they will respect you back.

I worked at Lehman Brothers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company created a very approachable atmosphere, open to hear ideas. Employees were given opportunities to prove themselves along with the responsibilities and power for the area or domain in their control. I stayed till the last day of the firm, its very sad to see a firm of that culture going down. I would defiantly join this company, if I know the culture (working and not financial risk taking) of the firm is still in the veins of the people running the firm.

    Cons

They took risk on some of the financial products, but in the IT department which I was part of, I did not find any big concerns or issues, except keeping major chunk of employees till the last day (is this bad.. keeping your employees close to you in good and bad days..?).

    Advice to Management

Please bring the same working culture back to the firm.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Amazing colleagues, cutting edge work, still some remnants of the collegial feel that one characterized investment banking.

    Cons

The bank faces a bleak future.

  11. Ok place to be given compensation and work-life balance

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Compensation, work-life balance, and relative lack of stress are all benefits of working at the Lehman Estate in bankruptcy these days

    Cons

Over time, the finite end to the bankruptcy and lack of urgency surroudning many activiites can be somewhat dispiriting and demotivating

    Advice to Management

More effective communication with staff about the firm's goals, direction and plans would be welcome. It would have some positive impact on morale
