I worked at Leiden University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Leiden is a very good place is work at, with a good atmosphere and an efficient bureaucratic layer. Compensation is as good as anywhere and the staff is very competent.

    Cons

The location is a little remote.

I worked at Leiden University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The University provided a great collection of coworkers. I was impressed by the excellent support staff who were very helpful in various situations, not only directly related to the office. Compensation was very good for my level. The city itself is very nice to live in, not too big but with all the amenities. The proximity to Schiphol airport is a great help for someone who travels a lot.

    Cons

As someone new to the Netherlands, I would have appreciated more clear instructions as to what is needed for local government and administration.

    Pros

The environment in Leiden university is friendly and creative, the library is convenient and useful. The staff in Leiden is also helpful.

    Cons

Leiden university is quite international, English is a wildly used language. We use English everyday with my dutch colleague. For people who want to practice Dutch, will have some small problem

I have been working at Leiden University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Highest student satisfaction rate in the Netherlands. Rich student life. As a researcher, plenty of interaction opportunities, e.g. in bio-informatics and medicine (Leiden University Medical Center), physics and other exact sciences. Exact science campus surrounded by high-tech companies.

    Cons

Computer science labs are a bit old, but new campus being built. Relatively little interaction with high-tech companies on same campus. Food and housing can be rather expensive.

I worked at Leiden University as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The environment at Leiden U is creative, the lab facilities are good and are currently expanding. Most importantly, researchers can have the support they require.

    Cons

The only negative thing I have to say is that technical support for the labs is not up to standard. More *specialized* staff is required, as those on call are not always able or willing to fix what is wrong.
