    Great Company for Youth Workers

    Assistant Manager (Former Employee)

    ProsDecent pay for young people just joining the workforce (depends on owner though most are good) Straightforward simple work that helps develop a routine.
    Hard work pays off as there is a lot of opportunity for advancement
    Teaches the basic skills needed for jobs in customer service as it is a high priority with the company
    Corporate workers help train the new owners and crew when a new store is opened so everyone is on the same page

    ConsSome owners are new to owning and running a company so you have to learn to grow with them as they develop their business skills.
    Work environment depends on attitude of crew and management and can sometimes be poor if management skills are poor
    Some owners hire friends and family, etc and it can cause controversy when obvious favoritism is show when scheduling or assigning tasks

    Advice to Senior ManagementThere should be a more thorough training program for new owners and managers.

    Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    You get to meet a lot of new people.
    50% off Lenny's great sandwiches.
    Lots of great opportunities.

    ConsThere are very few hours to split between everyone.
    minimum wage pay due to being independently owned.
    People can be very mean about their sandwiches.

    ProsYou get food discounts. There are plenty of great guests to interact with. Most of the coworkers are great and easy to get along with.

    ConsOverall, there is a lack of communication from upper management. The company has stalled as far as expansion, and there is little room for growth.

    Advice to Senior ManagementConduct better performance evaluations - ones that actually point out things you need to work on as well as what is being done well.

    ProsMost Lenny's are independently owned franchises. The franchise I worked for is owned by four fantastic guys who really care about their employees. One of the owners is also the general manager. His passion for the brand, store and giving the customers an excellent experience motivates his employees. He is willing to hop in and do anything he asks his employees to do. He backs his employees up when there is a difference of opinion with the customers (when the employee is right, of course.)
    Plus, the employee meal discount is 50%!

    ConsThere are no medical or retirement benefits at individually owned franchises. You're pretty much on your own as far as that goes, but it's that way with most restaurants.

    Advice to Senior ManagementI would advise them to be a little more calculating in their actions and research opportunities more before they jump in with both feet.
