Pros
Lenovo is a truly ground-breaking company - the first Chinese company to really go build a global brand. If you want to gain first hand experience on what has propelled the Chinese economy over the last decade plus, Lenovo's non-sales teams (corporate functions such as product development, product marketing, supply chain, finance, etc.) provide a great opportunity to understand a Chinese company from the inside.
Cons
Lenovo operates as a global company - key sites are all around the globe (North Carolina, Beijing, ShenZhen, Singapore, etc.) - so expect your work-life balance to take a hit as you'll be on the phone at all hours of the day.
Advice to Senior Management
It seems all the power has shifted back to Beijing - don't forget the things you learned when you hired wai guo ren to help go global.
Pros
-Products
-Work Environment
-Senior Management communication of strategy and mission
-Company growth prospects
Cons
-Advancement opportunities depending on division

Advice to Senior Management
Listen voice from every level of staff
Pros

Cons
HR needs to be more involved
Advice to Senior Management
perhaps to look at the bonus system versus the salary increment outside Greater China. A more brand penetration in the mature market such as North Americas
Pros
Loved the strong team I worked with in Mobile Software Test and Development. We supported and encouraged each other to strive for a better and more efficient work environment with each project and task.
Cons
Not all teams were as strong or flexible as ours, so it is not across all departments. Management in most departments at the time were very disconnected and were only interested in their own growth and accomplishments - no management support at all.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn and understand each team members strengths and weaknesses, and help each team member grow in a direction they feel comfortable with. Offer growth options based on the strengths that you observe of your team members. Encourage your team members to become a part of the creation.
Pros
Great pay
Global company
Fast growing company
Cons
No work/life balance
Unreasonable demands
Unorganized organization
No on the job training
HR department is unbelievable- took months for them to set me up on direct deposit, 401k and insurance.
My manager is far from the daily activities of the organization.
Advice to Senior Management
Look at other successful companies and how they train and attain their employees.
Pros
Good benefits, work flexibility, and fair compensation. Depending on the department tuition reimbursement may be available.
Employees can have pride in Lenovo because of their goal to build high quality products and provide excellent service. Lenovo market share is growing which is refreshing to see compared to the IBM PC company.
Cons
Smaller and less experienced teams are challenged to complete requirements at the level expected.
Most execs, managers, and their departments are not system thinkers and the performance measurement system is department and org based. The result is they care about the contribution within the boundaries of the department or org.
Performance measurement is highly political and subjective. It is very difficult to move around the company unless you are a favored one.
It is not encouraged to try new things or take calculated risks at the manager or lower levels. Failing is not an option even if new learning resulted from the failure that resulted in insights that drove revolutionary opportunities.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in your people world wide, educate, mentor, trust and enable them, measure employees less subjectively, and set reasonable short term goals and lofty long term goals.
Transition managers to active management roles rather than working roles. They preventing their teams from growing and executing at higher levels. A manager cannot out perform his team if lead well.
Invest in a culture of system thinkers. We are only good as our weakest link. With that said allow the elephant in the room to be identified constructively and addressed without the fear of retribution. Be willing to address the sacred cows for the good of the company!
Get rid of IBM services and their/our legacy processes that carry the burden of low performance and high costs!
Reduce the need for the high chaotic nature of the day to day business in favor for more clear repeatable processes. Allow some level of chaos to address the need for challenging decisions that were not fully informed or thought through and to drive reasonable escalations.
Be more transparent so end to end teams can share, discuss, plan, and execute!
