I have been working at Lenovo full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very happy environment Employees very proud of what they do Has a lot of the professional IBM culture ingrained, lots of high quality people work there.

    Cons

Dealing with IT is a nightmare, I am sure they know what they are doing but they are based in China and often you have to explain two or three times before they understand the issues. That having been said, it's usually possible to get the answers you need.

    Advice to Management

The culture says we do what they say but it sometimes takes a LONG time to make that happen. High quality people work outside of the RTP area. When you advertise cool looking jobs, be prepared to consider people that could work remotely, as hundreds already do successfully in the sales force.

Thanks for your input. I think this may be a duplicate post because I remember the IT support comment. Try using Lync to engage IT support. I used it 3x over the last week and it worked great ... More

    Pros

    - Great place to work - international environment where everyone is treated with respect - Opportunity to travel around the world - Witness some great products ever

    Cons

    - Traditional manufacturing company trying to become digital - Too many product lines and BUs - no unique brand identity

    Advice to Management

    Focus more on R&D

    Pros

If you need a job and you can't get in anywhere else then take it and hope for the best.

    Cons

Weird company and culture. Chinese culture all the way, centralized Chinese infrastructure, the individual doesn't matter. Constant upheaval and reductions in staff, reorganizations, absolutely no stability. This company can't figure out what to do and it makes changes every quarter or two. Some people have been there a decade as they got absorbed from the IBM acquisition. Lenovo has been greatly affected by their bad billion dollar purchases of Motorola and IBM Server business and are panicking. China economy crashing only makes their outlook worse. They just cut a bunch of staff, with much more to come again soon. Working for this company has been awful and it was a bad career move for me. Don't believe the hype out there

    Advice to Management

Poor senior management and bad decisions. You should clean house at the top because you are failing and making the same mistakes over and over.

I worked at Lenovo full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The office environment is good, the people are nice, but it is work all day, and have meetings a lot at night. Certainly not a 9-5 job.

    Cons

Some office politics, multiple cultures. Attention to detail gets missed on some pieces of projects.

    Advice to Management

Listen to workers outside of China - they are getting the job done. One good US Engnineer might equal 10 in Beijing. Remember that it isn't cheapest always wins - it is best, first to market, and building what the customer wants.

    Pros

Great compensation at a company that has managed to grow in a shrinking environment. Senior executives are laser focused on what needs to be done for success.

    Cons

Work-live balance is nonexistent; the performance culture is great for corporate success but very taxing on the individuals who are expected to continually do more with less (much more so than at other companies) and because of global nature of company, it is a 24/7 cycle

    Advice to Management

At some point there should be a greater focus on Human Resources and human capital. Over time, the performance culture is not sustainable on a working level

    Lenovo Response

    Jul 15, 2015 – Human Resources

    Pros

Decent compensation. Bonus is good compraring to other companies in the area. Young people have opportunities to try challenging projects

    Cons

No work life balance. Conference calls almost every evening on weekdays. Too many layers of management, some senior managers don't even have any direct report Ambiguous company culture, if there is any culture after all. There are way to many executives. Several hundreds of them. People who do real works - engineers for example got laid off all the time.

    Advice to Management
