Pros
Salary and benefit package is better than average. Flexible work schedules. I think the company is going in the right direction.
Cons
Respect and trust are out the window, I suspect due to the actions of a few.
Advice to Senior Management
Regular team meetings whether we need it or not - just to talk. Involve us more in deciding how the shop is run - we have ideas too. I like free pizza, but I'd give that up if you'd just listen to what I have to say.
Pros
Great benefits, mostly great people to work with. Always reorganizing so opportunity to slip into many different roles to expand experience. Good job for people coming out of college or with minimal experience.
Cons
Lack of direction. They are so ladened with debt that I cannot see them ever being able to overcome that for profitability and growth. Not impressed with Sr. Mgmt. They really need to change out the mgmt (at the very top) but they are too close to the board to make that tough decision.
Advice to Senior Management
Change out the top 10 guys - wholesale. Hire a turnaround guy (will most likely be ruthless and make the hard decisions that have been lacking the past 10 yrs) but the focus will be refreshing and sorely needed to turn this company around. The network assets they own are solid...just not willing to focus on the smaller enterprise customer that is "bread and butter."
Pros
At the time the benefits were good.
Cons
Poor Management and customers suffered because of it.
People who cared and took pride in their jobs were given poor reviews.
People who came to work when ever they felt like it were rewarded
in the department I worked for the moral was bad
Advice to Senior Management
Try to stick with a plan for more than 3 months and try to tweek it.
Pros
Money pay very well if you started with Company
Cons
See above so many cliches and mini kingdoms no clear vision
Advice to Senior Management
get a clear decsion
Pros
Exciting work atmosphere with lots of growth potential; fun to be involved in changing the way the world communicates and providing bandwidth for things new businesses like Netflix to grow; neat office campus;
Cons
They started laying people off; there was a "glut" of bandwidth that they were selling (time will tell if things will recover); everyone was working really hard so work-life balance was out of whack;
Advice to Senior Management
Even if the future looks uncertain and risky, try to find a way to keep the morale high or people who are still there
Pros
Compensation and benefits are fair to above average.
Cons
Most managers manage perceptions from above as opposed to focusing on core problems and generating solutions. Lots of finger pointing - very political. Job stability is nil due to constant reorganizations. Sooner or later, no matter how good you are, you will work for someone who does not like you and get fired. Senior management seems to be too cushy with teh Board and there is little accountability as a result. Anyone below this level is considered a replaceable commodity.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote cross-functional and departmental teamwork and hold people accountable for doing this. Embrace opinions you don't necessarily agree with and people will start to tell you the truth. All the knowledge you need to take the company to teh next level is already inside the company, but the culture and environment guarantees you will never get to use it productively.
Pros
Tons of challenging work in a variety of technologies. Fast paced
Cons
It tends to treat tech peopl as pawns on the board. Sometimes feel like assignments are made arbitrarily without any feedback from employee or skill matching.
Advice to Senior Management
Get to know your employees. Walk the halls and listen. There are some great ideas here, but nobody wants to hear them.
Pros
Some departments are better than others. The grounds are attractive and well-kept.
Cons
Debt continues to be pushed out into the future. Employees work endless hours and do fire drills. One head count equals two at Level 3. No work life balance. Culture promotes individual contributions and doesn't reward teamwork. This is the worst place I have ever worked, and I will be leaving as soon as I find another position. Those who visit with others will be rewarded while those working to plug the holes are ignored.
Advice to Senior Management
Look towards teamwork and not individuals who seek to promote themselves.
Pros
Challanging work. Size of the company makes it big enough to explore new opportunities and not have to do the same thing year over year, but it's also small enough that you don't feel like a number. The people here are great to work with (for the most part, always a few bad apples). They respect a work/life balance. Lots of vacation time. Great benefits. Great pay. Great office to work in.
Cons
Obviously the balance sheet is a bit nasty, but we are driving hard to grow revenues in order to support it. Opportunities for promotions are a little lacking as well.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep driving the company to grow revenues.
Pros
Good environment, friendly people, no cubes
Cons
Senior management needs to colaborate
Advice to Senior Management
Work together more
