Always room for growth at Pulse

I have been working at Lewis PR Inc full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you put in the time and churn out quality work, senior management will always have your back and go to bat for you. Career growth here is something that you earn based on your work, not on age or tenure, causing employees to work hard and be engaged with the subject matter. This is pretty rare at tech agencies, and it's great to feel like you're in control of your own career path. Culture within Pulse is great - everyone gets along, and there are plenty of events/gatherings outside of work to help foster a friendly environment. Coming to work doesn't feel like a chore when you enjoy the people around you, and feel like you're all a part of one team working toward the same goal; and you definitely get this feeling every day at Pulse.

    Cons

Work/life balance could be better, but that tends to come with working at an agency, so I suppose it's what you sign up for.

There is a lot of growth potential, but not a lot of resources (training and time) to grow employees.

    Pros

-Group of young, motivated, smart and driven professionals
    -Nice office with good perks
-Overall is a motivating place to me be
-A lot of potential for growth

    Cons

-Because the employees are so young, sometimes managers don't have the experience required to manage a group.
-Constant turnover so there always seems to be too much on people's plates.
-Not a lot of work/life balance.
-Constantly working at deadlines, never ahead

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Hire more people so that managers can actually manage
-Make time to check in with all client teams

    Pros

Fast upward mobility if you sell you soul. Good benefits, location and free beer.

    Cons

Management are brainwashed zombies who live to gossip, humiliate via email, and maintain their popular clique (read people who are not popular in the real world). Pass the blame is the name of the game. No one understands or are passionate about whatever cloud-based tech client they are on, so everything becomes about how they seem (i.e. long fluffy emails that don't say anything and inaccurate reporting), not what you actually accomplish. Success is 100% political.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps take a course or read a book on effective management? Get a life?

    Pros

Responsive and proactive management, dynamic and exciting culture, huge opportunity for career growth in a fast-paced environment

    Cons

You'll have to hit the ground running - survival of the fittest! Great for those ready for a challenge, not a good option for those looking to slide by on the bare-minimum.

    Pros

High-profile, but boring, clients. Kegs in the office and bagel fridays.

    Cons

Cliquey vibe and if you aren't "In" the main group, they will treat you like dirt until you quit or they fire you for whatever reason they feel like. All Senior or Mgmt positions are run by immature 25yr olds who have no experience in any other job setting and have no idea how to manage their employees. Minor mistakes are treated like the end of the world if you aren't part of the clique and you will be called out publicly for the smallest error. Lack of communication or transparency about your performance. They will tell you to your face that you are doing a great job and then stab you in the back and terminate your employment the next day. No specific reasoning or exit interviews occur, the process takes 2 min and they kick you out the door.

Terrible business model putting out sub-par content and overcharging clients for basic services. Blatant fudging of performance numbers to ensure that the client always sees gains, even if they did not occur. Low level of ethics overall by a significant portion of the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some people who actually know what they are doing. Your agency is run by a bunch of petty, political girls who make everything personal and treat the office like a high school cafeteria.

    Pros

most people working on the client teams are really great. A few people you don't want to spend more time than necessary with, but what office doesn't have that? Cool physical space and extra perks like beer, wine, bagels. Good communication about what's going on (on a basic level) each week. Early finishes encouraged on Friday and generally flexible with time off/

    Cons

Senior management say they are open to new ideas, but not always confident/comfortable enough to make change happen on a ig scale

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

trust the people you've hired. Let them do the jobs you asked them to do.

    Pros

cool clients, great, easy going colleagues

    Cons

Upper management, lack of training/direction, reliable resources, high stress with little reward/recognition

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management cares about one thing and that's new business. There is an overall lack of acknowledgment/care for account teams. For a large, "global" agency, LEWIS is seriously lacking in resources including training or mentorship. You either sink or swim here and if you swim you don't get far because management will use your ideas as their own to win new business and leave you in the dust. Aside from maybe having a few, cool clients, you'll be working late hours and most likely will be stressed out of your mind dealing with the drama behind the scenes at this agency. Be prepared to work on 5-6 accounts right off the bat with little direction or background.

I have been working at Lewis PR Inc full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I really enjoy working at LEWIS. Yes, some tasks are boring or stressful, some clients are difficult or rude, and there's the occasional coworker you may not get along with. However, that's life, and it's true for pretty much any job. What makes me want to come in to work everyday is the overall great colleagues I work with, the office culture, and the potential to grow my career. There are weekly office meetings to give kudos as well as office and company-wide emails. If you work hard, you will be promoted. No, you will not be promoted just because you showed up and did the bare minimum. But you will be rewarded if you prove yourself. That's evident by the core management who have been with LEWIS from the beginning, and the high number of employees who are now managers but who started out as juniors. LEWIS also regularly has employee surveys, and does make an effort to address the issues brought up. (Not all, but many.) Everyone is really friendly, even the founder/CEO Chris Lewis. I have recommended LEWIS to several friends.

    Cons

This is a PR agency, so you have the usual deadlines, overtime, difficult clients. There are some employees that are "dead weight," but I think management is addressing that better these days than it used to. I think most of the negative reviews come from recent college grads and LEWIS is their first real job. They don't have the experience of working for a really bad company, and I think they also believe that they should be rewarded for doing the bare minimum just because they have a college degree (read: spoiled/entitled.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more to employees, and actually take their opinions/advise into consideration. If something isn't working, don't keep doing the same process hoping for different results. There's always a way to improve!
