I have been working at Lewisville Independent School System part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I genuinely believe that this is one of the best school districts around. I don't have a single complaint.

    Cons

Don't have much to say. The commute from Denton wasn't the best, but all the schools are top quality.

    Pros

    Summer vacation
Making lasting impact in students' lives

    Cons

    Too much paperwork.
    Too many trainings

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Lewisville Independent School System full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The hours are great and you take some classes within the company.

    Cons

Meeting deadlines in a short period of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training should be given to those involved in performing tasks which would provide results accurately and faster. There should be consistency in getting tasks done. Manuals are excellent for new personnel.

I have been working at Lewisville Independent School System full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The district does pay well and with Site- based management, you could get a great principal who will work hard to ensure family values.

    Cons

The district does not promote based on merit or achievement. There is a still a 'Good ole boys' mentality here. Likewise, diversity is NOT appreciated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider advancing on merit and diversity. There is much to be said for creating policies for those who do not look like you, and why those policies fail so often.

I worked at Lewisville Independent School System full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I truly enjoyed working in LISD. Students worked hard.

    Cons

As with all teaching positions, you can't really take time off and there are many expectations that extend past the workday. This isn't unique to lewisville- it's a problem with the field rather than the company.

I worked at Lewisville Independent School System full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is excellent, lots of job opportunities available. Good district to grow in learning. flexible work schedule is allowed. offers good training.

    Cons

doesn't support employees - especially if injured. too much attention given to computer/internet based learning rather than "old fashioned learning". for example: multiplication facts being memorized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evaluate the worker's comp process and focus more on basic knowledge. Need to place people in the "School Principal" position that has clear direction, high student behavior and learning expectations, and will support the teachers.

I have been working at Lewisville Independent School System full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

A district that truly thinks of the child FIRST in every decision they make..
A majority of the teachers are very very good and dedicated to constant improvement.
Teachers receive an immense amount of professional development and are always on the leading edge of best instructional practices. Lewisville is innovativve and progressive with technology. A very diverse district going from East to West.

    Cons

The superintendent thinks he is a king and no one can talk to him except those he deems worthy.
Communication among departments is not always the best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open up the lines of communication so every one feels a part of the team. Don't tell your employees that they should never email the superintendent because only the leadership team is "allowed" to communicate with him,

I worked at Lewisville Independent School System full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Technology, technology, technology group work encouraged at all levels; benefits are standard educator benefits;

    Cons

Not a good balance of technology use in the classroom. Not using best developmental practices with lower elementary in regards to technology. Unsupportive/ lack of communication from principal

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think long and hard about all the technology use. It is not developmentally appropriate for lower elementary to be using so much technology. It actually hinders brain development. The corporate world is not paper free.
