    Great Experience and people

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsEveryone in my department was friendly and helpful and wanted to help me learn. They had a cafe and a cafeteria that the company subsidizes so everything was about half price ($2 for an entree and sides) of what you would get it for if you eat out.

ConsLow intern pay for the amount of work done. Volatile company, has gone through multiple rounds of lay offs.

Great experience. Exceptionally talented, professional, intelligent people. Never a dull moment.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) The Woodlands, TX

ProsExceptional people in every department. They hire the best in the business and only those that are willing to work day and night. Very helpful environment where each department can be counted on to pull their weight. Collaborative. Given opportunities to take on as much responsibility as you may want in many departments due to the size of the company.

ConsUnstable. Constant threat of lay offs. They require a partner or investor to ever be able to move beyond phase II. They only get three stars due to instability, otherwise, it would have been 4 stars.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe transparent with employees.

Started out well and then the opportunists and megalomaniacs turned it into just another biotech going nowhere.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsWhen LXRX opened, it was a fun place with all sorts of perks and the science was very cutting edge (at the time). The cafeteria was nice but really over the top for a non profitable biotech.

ConsSands is not to be trusted and many of the "managers" were med center retreads that couldn't find work without Arthur's help (and made directors). Quite a few careers were destroyed here by knee jerk reactions. Mouse house is long gone (at great expense) and the Star Trek themed building is an even bigger white elephant.

Advice to Senior ManagementArthur, sell out or resign. It was a nice idea at one point but like the other post genomic bust companies, nobody is buying it now.

    Struggling biotech

Senior Research Associate (Former Employee) The Woodlands, TX

ProsResearch opportunities to enter the industry. Easier transition from academia to industry in the area of drug discovery and pre clinical trials.

ConsConstant pressure, lay offs, restructuring and turnover rate are the cons that are common for a struggling biotech. Located in the north part of houston although vibrant may not offer many options for someone from big cities in east or west.

Advice to Senior ManagementGood luck on the difficult discovery process.
