The best part of working a LexisNexis is the people. They are professional, take care of their clients, are charitable and overall care about their fellow colleagues. Home based work environment provides a good work/life balance.
Cons
Every year (sometimes mid year) Lexis restructures the sales organization. There are too many MBA-Market Planners running around throwing ideas out based on what they learned in business school last year and not enough sales leaders in the trenches listening to the business.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop chasing your tails and restructuring the sales teams. Pick a "go to market" strategy, invest in your marketing and sales teams, not more market planners and go beat the competition at something. And finally "more" is not necessarily better.
Pros
Flexible schedule. Tuition reimbursement. Many locations in the area. Many locations around the world. Laid back atmosphere. Paid vacation and holidays.
Cons
I need more communication and clarity with speech and emails. Inconsistent leadership. Continuous work, it seems that we are never caught up. Almost no chances to progress in career.
Pros
Best reasons are the people, but the management stifles people and chains them to their cubicles while they are out in Aspen.
The work in customer support, legal, was always interesting. This was the saving grace of the position.

The perpetual change in Customer Support has forced MANY intelligent, diligent people out; many of these people left without other jobs lined up or took less pay.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn the nature of the job in CS. The work isn't metric oriented- it certainly isn't like working at a credit card call center. The work is legal research... and it's called research for a reason- it takes more than five minutes.
Pros
Family/work life balance; some very dedicated employees, managers and even a few senior managers go the extra mile consistently to make sure a quality product is delivered. The time off and encouragement to be involved in the community in volunteer activities is rare among large corporations. There are also a few managers and senior managers who really care about providing the best quality product to the customer and the best workplace environment to employees.

These dedicated employees and managers are seldom recognized or rewarded and are becoming more and more rare as a brain drain is taking place. As expected, the reorganization under the new CEO is leading to a brain drain and people are leaving for various reasons. A large percentage of these are the ones who really gave their all to the company. All too often senior management throws almost insurmountable obstacles in the way by rushing a product to market before it is fully debugged or setting impossible financial goals. There is even less recognition of good performance than in the past and the focus senior management showed in the past on boosting employee morale - which common sense says will improve the bottom line - is just about gone. The show appears to be run by people with severe cases of ADHD - there is constant reorganization and the vision/direction of the business seems to change as fast as the weather.
Advice to Senior Management
Establish a vision and the path to that vision and stick to it. Changing something just because it hasn't shown remarkable results in three months is counterproductive. Be more attentive to your employees - they want to respect you, want to work hard for you but, with such feeble and vacuous leadership - the decision to push for quantity rather than quality in products - employees feel pulled in a hundred directions and find it hard to feel pride in producing inferior products.

There's very less progress.
There's no chance for international employees to get hired full time.
They cannot hire if there's no permanent work authorization.
The higher level management often takes the wrong decisions and then spends time amending them.
Quality is often traded off for cost effectiveness.
Work is often inter mingled with off shore deliverables, but they never get done because of over commitment.
Advice to Senior Management
I wish the higher level management can amend its policies to recruit international students full time. All the learning during an internship is a definite asset to the company and cannot be let go.

Some of my coworkers are fantastic and have stayed despite their treatment
Lots of paid time off if you like taking every other Wednesday in the winter
Professional development really is strong here

Being tied to a telephone and told when you can take a break makes you feel like a kid in your first job, not a professional
Team leaders are not honest - if you are interviewing for this job, you have no say in the service group you go into, the promotions are not as easy as they make it sound (you have to put in probably 100 hours of your one time to complete a workbook), and time out of the phones is limited (used to be at least a few hours out per week, now you're lucky if you've been here 5 years and get an hour per week - you don't even have time to read your emails)
Micromanagement is excessive
Any other department is fine - reviews that call CS a gulag are accurate
No opportunity for advancement beyond the first few years
You will do the work of 3 people, pretend to love it, and perpetuate lies to new hires
Advice to Senior Management
Stop micromanaging, make some serious retention efforts NOW and stop ignoring the fact that everyone hates taking calls before everyone leaves. Listen to your people and be wiling to try new things to improve morale. Stop the middle management lies and switch up the team assignments so that TPL's are not functioning like a gang.

Great work life/balance supported by management, innovation everywhere, very agile as an organization.

Constant reorgs lead to confusion around reporting structure and little communication of strategic vision of the organization down to the masses.

Too many silos within marketing group, no formal single strategy shared across all groups
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to each level within the organization, not just from those who make themselves heard louder than others. Remove silos, believe in proj mgmt, and speak from one voice.

Not a happy place to work. I had worked for LexisNexis for over 40 years and all i can say no communication. Certain Managers are still there because the lie and make it sound the department is making a difference and making money, so they laid high salary employees off so it looks as if they made their quotes.
Advice to Senior Management
be more honest and open with your teams. Be fair.
