    Pros

Brilliant, hardworking people. Good benefits and programs. A good place to get a wide range of experiences.

    Cons

There's no "sitting promotions" unless HR deems it in their best interest to do so. Problem people are promoted or kept on and hardworking people get the honor of picking up their slack. They repeatedly hire from outside rather than recognize their own talent internally. Management has no real power to grow employees. HR is not for employees. They are for the C level executives. Get in - Get out type of environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and recognize the unrest in your organization. People are not happy because you fail to recognize them with real growth opportunities and true reward (not worthless coins). Value your talented people before all you have left are a bunch of under skilled puppets and lose all your loyal, long term employees. ONLY search outside the company IF there is NO internal talent that can fill the position.

I have been working at LexisNexis Risk Solutions full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Compensation is definitely commensurate with market values in the area maybe on the higher end. Though benefits are the not the best I've received of all my jobs. Work duties range from the abysmally dull to the super exciting cutting edge big projects with high visibility within the company. Its a mix of everything. There's definitely positive if you know how to navigate the occasional negative.

    Cons

Management is a bit disorganized at times. Everything is a priority (so basically nothing is really a priority over anything else). Too many formalities are broken on a whim and poor decisions that adversely affect the company are made by many people from software developers all the way up to upper management. This can be frustrating at times and make it difficult to produce a reliable environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't allow stupid design decisions to propagate. They DO affect the company. When a choice is made by senior or consulting engineers, don't shoot it down just because you're unfamiliar with it or because it seems costly. It's pennies compared to the down time and thousands or even millions in losses you'll suffer when the inevitable failure occurs by the poorer design. And for God sakes, get rid of the Solaris systems, Sun Microsystems doesn't exist any more.

The company in itself was awesome. They were like a big family.

    Cons

The training was disorganized in my department. You have to learn on your own.

    Pros

Opportunities, recognition of the company name in the market. There are many challenges, and you can apply yourself to as many as you think you can handle.

    Cons

The growth often causes lots of communication confusion, but that is happening across corporate America now, all over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more to line staff - they have great suggestions, but are often not being listened to.

I have been working at LexisNexis Risk Solutions full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Ostensibly professional development of what the employees want to do with their careers is taken into consideration when first line management assists employees in career development plans. On the surface this looks like a good thing but it appears to be poorly implemented.

    Cons

Management decisions are made that appear to be fabricated from something other than sound logic. As in most mid - large size companies people who are promoted to management rarely have the skills needed to be good leaders. There are some exceptions but they are few.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider steering people who are not a good fit for leadership positions into other areas in their career development. Also consider adding a separate career development path for people who are more technical, so that their attributes can be better applied.

    Pros

Very helpful co-workers that I learned a lot from. Great collaboration among teammates in order to get the job done. You are not micro managed. Vacation, sick and personal days are rolled into one and they call it PTO. and is pretty standard for most companies.

    Cons

Burdened with unnecessary reports to fill out that had to be done in duplicate and triplicate. Lack of direction by middle management. Technology is old.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a clear direction in which you want to steer the company, give your employees the tools to perform the job and listen to employee feedback
