Pros
I had a great opportunity to learn a lot of mechanical testing and simulation during my two summer internships with lexmark.
Cons
My first summer I was not paid as much as I would have liked to, but was compensated handsomely my second time around.
Advice to Senior Management
Please be more organized with the interns working there, and try to give more feedback regarding work and not just randomly check in.
Pros
Lots of good, interesting work to do
Fulfilling to see people using our printers in the real world
Good work/life balance, including some special benefits
Cons
Salaries flat for three years running
No employee stock purchase program
Upward mobility seems to top-out sooner than it should
Advice to Senior Management
People are already leaving for better paying jobs in a bad economy, focus on raises!
Pros
Lexmark gives the employees the opportunity to get work done any way they can, either be at home or in the office. Work space changed from offices to cubes which really helped with open communication. Friendly workplace.
Cons
Lexmark tends to promote individuals based on time spent with company and executives tend to promote friends versus leaders. Some upper management individuals are negative and have questionable intentions. Most movement seems to be promoting individuals into positions which they have not clue of what to do.
Advice to Senior Management
Put back a performance rating system that people can actually understand and work toward goals and have achievements. Not something that can't be measured. Move people into positions that can help the company, if the person being moved doesn't think their the right fit, then it's probably true. They won't do their best. Get rid of negative people.
Pros
Not many Tech jobs in Lexington. For someone starting out in their career this place has a ton of potential for learning about technology. Lexington is a lot better town than people on glassdoor give it, and most of those that claim it is lame would say the same about LA or New York.
Cons
Lexmark is lost and cannot seem to find its way. They hope they can turn from a hardware to software company but it's going to be tough with the crew currently in place. To many long time employees holding up progress.
Advice to Senior Management
Go out and hire the talent required to make the change from a hardware to software company.
Pros
Good work life balance, good salary. Very very nice people and a good location.
Cons
Easy to be pigeonholed and never move, very hierarchal and has an old school class system.
Advice to Senior Management
Look at your attrition levels.
Pros
A variety of different positions. Testing is not demanding. One of the few software-related opportunities in the Lexington, KY area.
Cons
It's nearly impossible to enter into Lexmark as an employee of Lexmark. Their openings are through contracting agencies alone, and once you get a job, that will basically be your job for the remainder of the time there. Several employees that have been there upwards of ten years are still doing similar work to what they started doing. There is a significant disconnect with the management, and while its promoted that contractors are to be treated no differently than employees, this is certainly not the case.
Pros
There is teamwork and Managers support their subordinates.
Cons
Actually, nothing I am satisfied and if there is opportunity I will apply to other country branch.
Advice to Senior Management
Actually, what he's doing is good for the company and to the employees to continue the existence and leads in the business. I'm not afraid because i do what my job requires me to and sometimes i go beyond what my job requires me just to help and to be in-line with the company objectives.
Pros
Culture, Flexibility, Overall Compensation, opportunities.
Cons
Legacy thinking, slow to move on good ideas.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to Promote the best.
Pros
Good team work culture. The teams always work well together instead of pointing fingers. Most of the people in lower management are very friendly and understanding.
Flexible working hours. As long as you get your job done on time, nobody cares when you come in and when you leave.
Cons
Pay could be better. Some of the best "geeks" I have seen stay here only because they are born here and they have all their family here.
Upper Management has no clue about anything.
Not enough motivational activities for employees. Seriously, who would ask employees to pay for a holiday lunch.
Advice to Senior Management
Upper Management is so confused sometimes, they do not even know what they want or which direction the company would go. For example, for a certain product, everyone in the low-level managment and engineers knew from the very beginning that it does not make any sense making that product. It just plain sucks. Upper management thinks it is the best thing ever to happen to the company. Only after the product is released, they realize the truth.
Pros
Self-development opportunities are considerable. Not much support.
Cons
Poor career progression. Very stagnant as the company is headed in wrong direction.
Advice to Senior Management
Time to change how you do things
