I worked at Lhoist North America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Teamwork was great and the operations manager understood the value of my opinion. I was kepty informed of the KPI's and maintenance requirements.

    Cons

There were not anything bad to say. Everything was great.

    Advice to Management

Should of promoted your operations manager, as he was very good at predicting maintenance and even assessed the other plants for you.

  3. LNA management has absolutely no leadership capability, is pathetic, disorganized, confused and without positive merit.

I worked at Lhoist North America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great insurance, great benefits Courage, Integrity, Respect is a great idea if you live it all the time and not only when convenient... Management is disingenuous at best.

    Cons

When I left the company my name was misspelled 5 different ways in company emails, letterhead and addresses. Maintenance at each plant is a joke. Safety at each plant is a joke. Plant managers in general have no control over their plants in a positive manner. 2 different plant managers were guilty of "drunk dialing" shift supervisors and maintenance supervisors in less than 6 months.

    Advice to Management

When you wish to change you must abolish the "good ol boy" system being used for contracting and abolish the protections of your plant managers. The union is needed at this company to keep it running. The management has created a monster through their ignorance and inability to listen to their employees..

I worked at Lhoist North America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They feed employees well - lots of catered lunches. Most employees are friendly and helpful. Favorable competitive position in industry.

    Cons

Laggard in technology implementation, Executive Leadership Team can't agree on much. Belgian parents control the company tightly, and often make it difficult to be agile in the market. Plants are dusty and messy - you don't want to drive your own vehicle to them. High turnover.

    Advice to Management

Leadership is much more effective when you can be trusted and respected.

    Advice to Management

Seriously try to initiate team-building atmosphere

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Lhoist North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

none, there is nothing worthy of your time or loyalty at this company. The CEO is an oaf from Belgium who will insult you and break every HR rule in the book like talking about age and weight in your interview and beyond. He does not care about anyone but himself and his own agenda. And to top it off, he can't make a decision to save his life.

    Cons

horribly oppressive European leadership that know nothing about American culture or values.

    Pros

The pay and benefits are great! The organization tried to include the plant team in major corporate inititatives.

    Cons

Long work hours. Inefficient use of capital and maintenance dollars driving down plant operability.

    Advice to Management

Strive for plant reliability and understand your operation. If the plants are running, employees are happy and money is being made for the company.
