I worked at Li & Fung

    Pros

They provided a diverse working environment.

    Cons

At the time of my employment the company was going through many changes that affected room for growth for employees in my field.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Li & Fung as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

The people are very nice but some teams are better to work with than others. The office is located in a great area!

    Cons

The company needs to be more efficient with communication and technology. It's hard to understand the business as a whole because it is such a large company. Some employees are set in their ways and do not like change because they have been in the company for so long. This also affects the chances of a promotion so promotional opportunities are lacking unfortunately.

    Atmosphere / Structure

I worked at Li & Fung

    Pros

Many good people to work with from many different companies from acquisitions. Sadly, they let a lot of the dedicated and loyal people go once the new acquisitions have been integrated within the company.

    Cons

Too many senior management roles that are not qualified for their positions which makes completing project goals or deadlines challenging.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend time on individual interviews to learn about what employees strengths or weaknesses are. Help them grow and gain experience. Especially senior management from acquisitions.

I worked at Li & Fung as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    Paid internship - Weekly
Very hands on experience - great way to learn about the industry.
Challenging experience which has made me a much better and more confident designer
The opportunity to work and collaborate with Stoll USA during an intern project
Experience entire design process from research and trend, specing and development, showroom prep to final designs.

    Cons

    Very long working days
Quite intense at times, depending on account you work in - must be good at multi-tasking and time keeping and must be very organised.
Quite un-organised company structure - you have a lot of responsibility and spend a lot of time organising and tidying.
I had a great experience in the account i was in and was a fantastic learning experience but wasn't the same case for other interns - very dependent on which account you get assigned to.
Get relied on A LOT but not always appreciated!
The designer i worked for was very supportive but the company in general didn't provide great support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Consider possible job opportunities post-graduation.
Better development/progression feedback and better support.

I have been working at Li & Fung full-time

    Pros

Excellent health benefit packages. Great investment in new software to maintain accuracy and data integrity in both a top-side down and a bottom-side up integration of all business categories and clients across all businesse.

    Cons

Poor communication within business departments and across all specific customer accounts

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I realize you (LFUSA Managment) are spending a great deal of money to educate top executives from around the world in Asia, but you should do more for younger executives who will benefit from thoes courses so much more given their younger age, their desire to learn new things to help their business and propell their careers, and their youthful willingness to see and do things differently for improved results. Currently the executives you're targeting are too old and set in their own ways and modalities when it comes to exicuting what needs to be done for their businesses. In short you're wasting money on older employees that will not utilize enough of the strategies and practices they are being taught because they favor the way they have been doing things for the past decade or two.
