I worked at Liberty International Underwriters full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very positive work environment, small office that had a team mentality. Management encouraged employees to pursue certification classes such as ARM and CPCU, company will pay for them.

    Cons

Not much room for growth opportunities in the field offices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Utilize cross selling methods with other departments.

    Pros

    decent compensation
    friendly co workers
    great benefits
    excellent 401k and matching

    Cons

Part of larger corporation Liberty Mutual and improvements or approvals are slow
Size does allow for the average amount mismanagement and deadweight
its still an insurance company at heart
    Loosing its entrepreneurial spirit

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to all ideas from the product / field experts because success is best gauged by effectiveness and longevity of results. It is always better to be effective than right.

I worked at Liberty International Underwriters part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Friendly environment. Honest and up-front dealings.

    Cons

All Consultant contracts for Genius security support and other support functions were eliminated by HR/Planning effective 1/1/14 as part of 2014 planning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider permanent part time employees. I worked mornings doing basic Genius User ID set-up, critical to getting underwriting done and policies out the door, which allowed higher skilled/paid IT developers to stay focused on projects and more critical tasks. It was a perfect match, a win/win.

I am happy working here at the moment. If I had a different manager, I might not be so happy.

I have been working at Liberty International Underwriters

    Pros

Best of both worlds - support of Liberty Mutual Holdings but not a direct part of Liberty Mutual. Growing industry with lots of opportunity. Global operations. Still has a small employees base.

    Cons

Lack of direction & established processes. LIU grew fast and is spread out - each region does things their own way. But that also provides opportunity. Oppressive IT policies. Some managers are good, some not so good. Many new employees come in via headhunters as contractors which may be good or bad; many FT also transfer in from Liberty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is heading in the right direction. Give employees the freedom and tools to get things done. Create your own HR system! You are restricting the ability of long term contractors by not giving them access to employee resources (no N-number, etc.). Your employees & contractors want to do a good job - let them!

I worked at Liberty International Underwriters full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pay is generally good. You get well compensated and have the opportunity to grow if you can perform well. Excellent location for the office.

    Cons

There can be politics involved with who you know and who likes you. This factors into your promotions as well. Senior management is slow to respond sometimes as there is a lot of red tape.

I have been working at Liberty International Underwriters full-time

    Pros

Excellent management, very supportive of employee goals, respects employee opinions and allows underwriters to take on risk and do proper dilligence (declining if it's fit to do so). Good work-life balance.

    Cons

Employees paid less than at other companies, authority process can be tedious, company slow to respond to market conditions - whcih means UW's (whose targets are based on writing new business, and keeping renewals) may have their hands tied and therefore it's tough to meet goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respond faster to market conditions, pay employees fairly, and if you want thorough underwriting to be completed you have to understand that you can't make the new business targets sky-high.

I have been working at Liberty International Underwriters

    Pros

People oriented organisation, good senior management which provides direction, focused business approach.

    Cons

Slow to respond to market needs, decision making takes long, not a nimble organisation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more responsive to market requirements. Focus more on external environment than internal process.
