Pros
Many opportunities in a variety of areas - especially Boston. Fair salary. Great development and training if you want it. Strong company - no layoffs despite recession.
Cons
Focus on hiring from outside with MBA programs - sometimes overlook internal candidates.

Inconsistency across the organization in terms of management abilities, opportunities (both for advancement and for pursuing advanced degrees) and adhering to the "we treat people with dignity and respect" mantra. A culture of fear and a total disregard for the needs of working parents (there is no maternity leave policy, no back-up daycare, and no flexible work arrangements in many areas)
Advice to Senior Management
Delve into employee survey results and eliminate managers who don't treat their people with dignity and respect - the answers are there. Ensure managers consistently apply policiesand acknowledge populations like working mothers and young employees in your policies. Any "responsible" company should have a maternity leave policy!

The pay is great, LOTS of people in the industry for 10+ years
Cons
I was 10x more motivated than my peers and performed at a much high level. Even though I observed these abilities (confirmed in performance reviews by multiple members of management and upper management) I was held back from promotions because "there wasn't enough room at the next level". I was outperforming people 1-2 grades about me and they couldn't do anything about getting me promoted.
Living in NH really didn't work for me as I was from CA and hated the weather, culture, and people's attitudes out there.
Advice to Senior Management
If people are performing well, promote them! Don't hold people back because the person that has been coasting by doing the bare minimum for 20 years needs to be promoted first.

7.5 hours work a day, never OT. Switch off office lights at 6 pm

Move managers across the organization so they do not become vested in the startus-quo; do not let people stay in one area too long (15+ years?)

Good pay and benefits. 401k match and pension is good.

I worked 11 to 12 hours per day during the week and about another 8 hours on the weekend They kept cutting staff and piling on the work. It was unreasonable. It is also a "boys club". It doesn't matter how hard you work if you are female. Qualifications and performance are irrelevant. It is who you know there and whether you are part of the men's club or not.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote people based on qualifications and performance. Create positions with reasonable working hours. Working people to death and leaving great talent at the bottom only hurts the company.

Very competitive benefits. Low cost of living in Dover, New Hampshire (as long as you don't mind the boredome of the locale).
Cons
My manager was not trained on how to give effective reviews (e.g. "I observed something last year"). My team had more expectations to work at odd hours (e.g. Sundays at 3am) but we were not recognized. Other teams in the same department worked normal hours. Avoid Distribution Systems in Dover. Ive worked for larger companies that treated their employees better.
I left when my manager told me in my review that there was really no work for me until perhaps next year and that they would look for things for me to do. I had been dying of boredom for months doing work that was monotonous (e.g. regression testing) and did not use my extensive skills and educational background.
Advice to Senior Management
Train your managers on how to respect staff, motivate staff and more importantly, provide ethical and effective performance reviews. Learn to recognize employees that have to go in off hours by recognition or by providing time off equivalent to the hours spent on weekend. Do as you say. If you tell your staff if there is a snow day that they have to use personal hours and they are not allowed to work from home, then you should take personal time on snow days yourself. Lead by example.
Pros
If you are lucky enough to get a good senior manager it is a wonderful place to work. I climbed the ladder making it to management.
Cons
Front line managers are expendible. Insane workaholics who create their own fires and then tell everyone how they put the fire out can be rewarded.

Good work, people were interested in what you were doing, good people, good benefits, and there was always someone there to answer questions.
Cons
The pay is lower than other companies and at times it feels like the company would rather give you busy work instead of real work.

I think my manager did a good job in giving me work, however, I think that my supervisor needed to be more involved.
Pros
It has a great work environment, I love my bosses as well as coworkers. They also really challenge you and give you important tasks.
Cons
I believe the worst thing about Liberty Mutual is that it doesn't pay as well as other companies do with same job.

I would say prepare well for the interview, Liberty Mutual wants employs that know how to work in groups and have good social skills.
