Pros
The pay is great, LOTS of people in the industry for 10+ years
Cons
I was 10x more motivated than my peers and performed at a much high level. Even though I observed these abilities (confirmed in performance reviews by multiple members of management and upper management) I was held back from promotions because "there wasn't enough room at the next level". I was outperforming people 1-2 grades about me and they couldn't do anything about getting me promoted.
Living in NH really didn't work for me as I was from CA and hated the weather, culture, and people's attitudes out there.
Advice to Senior Management
If people are performing well, promote them! Don't hold people back because the person that has been coasting by doing the bare minimum for 20 years needs to be promoted first.
Pros
Good benefits and Good pay plus room to growth.
Cons
Management need a fresh blood.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the new ideas
Pros
7.5 hours work a day, never OT. Switch off office lights at 6 pm
Cons
Spend a lot time on internal communications
Most of the management are white
Advice to Senior Management
more diverse please
Pros
There are always plenty of job openings due to the high turnover. The benefits are ok although they used to be better before Liberty Mutual bought SAFECO. Competent and intelligent co-workers. It's a good training ground and jumping off point for college grads.
Cons
At Liberty Mutual, the parameters that define success for a job title are archaic and finite. If your "numbers" do not fall into a certain range for certain competencies, then you are deemed a failure. Things like creativity and speaking the truth are frowned upon. In other words, if you're not a robot then you probably won't last long at Liberty. If your competencies and/or numbers aren't up to par, it's highly likely that you'll be allowed to stick around, but only to rot. They will use your low "numbers" as an excuse to pass you over for promotions and raises, but they will work you like a dog. There are never too many minions at Liberty.
Advice to Senior Management
You need to change how you evaluate the worth of an employee. Right now, Liberty is all about numbers. Quit trying to shove the square peg into the round hole. Instead of expecting every employee to bring the same thing to the table, find out what each person has to offer and if it is of value to the job and the department. If it is, then take their talents on their own merit and lose the metrics. The numbers game is dehumanizing.
Pros
- start pay
- nice coworkers
Cons
- no challenges
- hard to get in contact with upper division
Pros
Liberty has great pay with a mild work load. They offer great training and very flexible scheduling (they are open 6am- 1:15am).
Cons
Management isn't held accountable for lack of coaching. Employee and supervisor relations are sketchy. LM doesn't back their employees at all, and management isn't supervised much.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay attention to employee concerns regarding management and leadership. Take initiative to resolve conflicts and concerns. "Hear my heart not my words", doesn't always work.
Pros
The benefits package is great!
Cons
Depending upon who you work with you may be treated poorly. A lot of people know one another outside of the job. If one does not like you, you may not enjoy the experience.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't socialize so much then your judgement may not be as clouded.
Pros
Organization that really does try to live it's values.
Cons
Quality of management very uneven across the whole enterprise.
Advice to Senior Management
Move managers across the organization so they do not become vested in the startus-quo; do not let people stay in one area too long (15+ years?)
Pros
my direct manager was great
Cons
too big of company and too much upper management
Pros
Size, financial backing & active market growth. High exposure to diversity and integration. Great Boston location and building amenities. Many senior managers worked their way up the ladder.
Cons
Not overly great at on boarding new staff with ample training and introductions. Heavy reliance on email communications. Weak integration of new grads.
