Pros
Good pay and benefits. 401k match and pension is good.
Cons
I worked 11 to 12 hours per day during the week and about another 8 hours on the weekend They kept cutting staff and piling on the work. It was unreasonable. It is also a "boys club". It doesn't matter how hard you work if you are female. Qualifications and performance are irrelevant. It is who you know there and whether you are part of the men's club or not.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote people based on qualifications and performance. Create positions with reasonable working hours. Working people to death and leaving great talent at the bottom only hurts the company.
Pros
Very competitive benefits. Low cost of living in Dover, New Hampshire (as long as you don't mind the boredome of the locale).
Cons
My manager was not trained on how to give effective reviews (e.g. "I observed something last year"). My team had more expectations to work at odd hours (e.g. Sundays at 3am) but we were not recognized. Other teams in the same department worked normal hours. Avoid Distribution Systems in Dover. Ive worked for larger companies that treated their employees better.
I left when my manager told me in my review that there was really no work for me until perhaps next year and that they would look for things for me to do. I had been dying of boredom for months doing work that was monotonous (e.g. regression testing) and did not use my extensive skills and educational background.
Advice to Senior Management
Train your managers on how to respect staff, motivate staff and more importantly, provide ethical and effective performance reviews. Learn to recognize employees that have to go in off hours by recognition or by providing time off equivalent to the hours spent on weekend. Do as you say. If you tell your staff if there is a snow day that they have to use personal hours and they are not allowed to work from home, then you should take personal time on snow days yourself. Lead by example.
Pros
Good work life balance, good benefits (although pension plan changed in 2010), good people. Best opportunities are in Boston and abroad.
Cons
Constant reorganizations, low morale, lack of strategy at division level, little communication from home office, divisions lack independence (home office directs all action),
Pros
there are good opportunities for grwoth
Cons
there are way too many long hours
Advice to Senior Management
keep on moving forward with the plan
Pros
only work 37.5 a week, great time off, good benefits. Only home office is in the city
Cons
gives you too much of a course load, up to 40 cases at once and when you ask for help, they say 'balance' it out. Too much micromanagement. Odd how they recognize who is doing well, one of my coworkers was seen as 'outstanding' within two weeks of starting our jobs....really? how much assessment could they have done. Most jobs are in the suburbs
Advice to Senior Management
You can see obvious bias in favoritism. If somebody is doing an exceptional job tell us WHY! instead of just smile and clap. Also instead of throwing so many cases at a person, why not just hire more people?
Pros
If you are lucky enough to get a good senior manager it is a wonderful place to work. I climbed the ladder making it to management.
Cons
Front line managers are expendible. Insane workaholics who create their own fires and then tell everyone how they put the fire out can be rewarded.

Pros
-Great benefits program - 401K matching & a Pension after 5 years vested
-Flexible Spending Account
-Employee Assistance Program - managed by 3rd party to keep confidential
-Excellent health insurance
Cons
-They are great at finding ways not to pay their employees what they are worth
-Health insurance is fairly pricey, but worth it
-Their current reorganization of the claims department leaves many people fearful of their jobs
-Unreasonable workload in claims department
-There is not a structured training program for new hires, so adding a new person to the team is difficult. Co-workers are expected to train new employees along with get their current workload complete. My team currently has 3 members who have been working for the company for at least 4 months and are still taking minimal (as few as 3) claims per day, leaving the rest of the team swamped and unable to meet customer demands.
-Constantly change job description and demands without adjustment of pay.
-I got "promoted" but it was considered a lateral move so there was no pay increase. Now that job is being changed to take on more claims (especially more complex claims) and I am still making what I made in an entry level position.
-There is no negotiation for pay increases. You get what they say. It doesn't matter about your education, achievements, or the challenges that you have faced.
Advice to Senior Management
-More structured training & expectations are essential to ensure that there is a balanced workload on a team.
-Quit changing my position without changing my pay. I have worked in two seperate departments where this has happened. I have worked here four years almost and still make entry level pay.
-Pay college gradutes a higher salary.
-The elimination of the Express team was a poor decision. So many good workers were lost, and made the contact center, Express adjuster, and the Liability adjusters hostile towards the changes.
Pros
Good work, people were interested in what you were doing, good people, good benefits, and there was always someone there to answer questions.
Cons
The pay is lower than other companies and at times it feels like the company would rather give you busy work instead of real work.
Advice to Senior Management
I think my manager did a good job in giving me work, however, I think that my supervisor needed to be more involved.
Pros
Salary is higher than most
Potential to grow quickly
Potential to change roles in different departments
Management cares about employees
Cons
Too conservative and lack of youthful spirit
Lack of work/life balance and social atmosphere
Age 10 years when you work here
Advice to Senior Management
Build a gym, game room, and extend the cafeteria hours. Hire more technology savy applicants
Pros
If you work hard, then you will see results. The income potentential is great, if you work hard and sell policies. You can earn great money without having to move into supervision (you can earn more than your supervisor and even manager). Great work/life balance.
Cons
LM is not the cheapest insurance company so it's hard to compete with othe companies like GEICO etc. We don't have a rate for everyone like some other companies out there. LM targets education, home ownership, etc to give a decent rate.
