Pros
Defies notion that insurance companies are full of stodgy, boring people. Boston HQ is great. Management is very effective and respectful of employees. Interns were treated very well and rising seniors were invited to attend a fantastic 3 day seminar, where we were put up in a hotel, met with CEO Ted Kelly and other executives, excellent food, entertainment included Duck Tours.
Cons
Day to day work of the internship was a bit tedious, but it was still a good experience because it gave insight into the workings of the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the positive feedback and positive reinforcement. Showing enthusiasm is the best way to get interns enthusiastic about less than glamorous duties.
Pros
Great Place to work and good 3 months training.
Cons
Too much sales representative in the same office.
Pros
Great Benefits
Flexible Work Hours
Decent Pay
Educational Training
Growth Potential (must be willing to relocate)
Cons
More involved feedback
Communication between departments is restricted and/or difficult
Pros
Salary, time off, benefits, flexible schedule
Cons
there is no room for advancement or to move into a different department and learn an new job. don't matter how hard you work, you get the same pay increase as the person who does half the work you do.
Advice to Senior Management
Allowed good employees to learn new trades instead of hiring from the outside. This will maintain employees motivated, instead of feeling like a dead end job.
Pros
Benefits & 401k Are great!
Cons
Poor Management & Supervisor Leadership
Advice to Senior Management
Lack of management skills & tactfulness is poor, you should be reviewing supervisors & managers more often & how they treat employees.
Pros
Good Benefits, good training, competitive pay.
Cons
limited growth unless you're in Home Office.
Advice to Senior Management
More career advancement opportunities for sales Agents.
Pros
Salary potential lots of nice people. Book of business. Flexible. Recession proof. Be wary of passing the exams to start selling.
Cons
Bad management..tests are hard and you barely have time to study for them. Murky waters with conp. Plans. You just find your way then its ok.
Advice to Senior Management
Let the reps have more independence. You need us. Let us sell how we sell to make us both more money.
Pros
Great benefits, great pay, great time
Cons
Management does not always know what's going on, we are the ones that have to tell them what we are working on, its pretty much up to you to figure out what needs to be done, how to do it, and when to get it done.
Advice to Senior Management
More control of what certain employees do (or don't do...). Management does not always know what's going on, we are the ones that have to tell them what we are working on, its pretty much up to you to figure out what needs to be done, how to do it, and when to get it done... sometimes its a bit frustrating when other people take advantage and dont do their job, and you have to do it for them (if you are a responsible employee)
Pros
Great Pay
Amble Time Off & Flex Time
Work From Home Available
Benefits on Par For Insurance & Financial Companies
Cons
Not recommended for women in IT. Too much of a boys club with lots of people who have been there 25+ years who resist change and will not accept changes to status quo, even when neccessary. Not very efficient in their work, IT lacks any type of adherence to SDLC processes. QA not respected and bolted on to the end of the process. Very difficult to find people to get your job done and then you have to hound them. Found the overall talent in the IT department lacking. A lot of local talent, not a lot of top notch talent from the big schools or big heavyweights in IT. A lot of "figuring it out" needed by the IT department and not a lot of getting it right the first time due the quality of talent in the entire department. They preach responsibility and inclusion, but I found those to be traits lacking in my team. There is a reason why this company usually prefers to hire from within or college grads. They are usually the one people who find passive agressive tatics palatable. Don't ever expect a fair fight or be able to raise your opinion or idea if it is not your bosses idea. I read in one review before that this is a place where good IT careers go to die, I found that to be a very true statement.
Advice to Senior Management
To get the type of IT change you want/need, You are going to need a huge culture change that embraces new ideas and is far more collaborative. The old guard can't retire fast enough...
Pros
Pay, benefits, training, performance feedback, teaming concept
Cons
Management
Non-competitive rates makes it hard to sell and maintain current customer satisfaction.
Advice to Senior Management
I think most offices would have better management, however my immediate manager at times has been rude and derogatory to the point where I reported him to upper management. The situation has improved, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt that office environment will maintain it's current level.
