I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Their training is exceptional...the pay is great, excellent benefits and vacation time. Flex time for work/home balance.

    Cons

Wish they would promote within more...they have talented people who currently work for them and the transition to other departments is highly difficult.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within! Limited growth opportunity on the sales and service side

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good money in the first 2 years. But then base pay drops significantly. Good pay for about the first 2 years. Good benefits Great coworkers

    Cons

Your career depends on the office you're in. And the manager branch. A lot of micro management

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees and not just the sales.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is competitive, there's some new flexible work week options. Team oriented environment.

    Cons

There is a network of employees and managers that only promote each other. This group is difficult to infiltrate. An overhaul is needed.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance (More than a year)

    Pros

Supportive environment Flexibility in Work Schedule Still offers pensions for employees

    Cons

Out dated performance management system scale of 1 - 15, makes you feel like you are only a number and does not offer opportunities for goals to work towards.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Sales Interns get out of the office a decent bit, and the pay is good.

    Cons

I've been strapped to a computer and a telephone cranking out cold calls from day one. I would advise an internship elsewhere. The work is not challenging, and all I have learned is from teaching myself. Training agendas do not exist in this company.

    Advice to Management

Stop making your interns cold call all day long.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time

    Pros

Good products and claims process for your customers.

    Cons

As an agent you are expected to bring in very high policy numbers. It's all about policy count. The environment is very " boiler room". If you don't hit your policy number you will be fired. Agent turn over is very high , it's set up to be that way. Then your clients become house accounts and they don't pay commission to the service reps who handel them.

    Advice to Management

Look at quality of clients not just volume. Multi line - low risk and low claim history. The turnover of your agents should be addressed . Only 2 of the 60 people I went thru training with is still at Liberty Mutual. The company is only interested in new business and your agents do questionable things to keep their jobs.

  10. Good launching point. Good for college intern wanting a F500 company on resume. Paid well.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The money (for a college student) was good. Very clean, professional corporate environment. LM is introspective as a company, and puts emphasis on the internal structure.

    Cons

The industry/product itself is very commoditized. It can be tedious, boring work. On the sales side, the company is not entirely invested in you, as you are only as valuable as the $ you bring in. Not necessarily unfair, but you need to show value first, before they'll invest time and effort into you. Again, not necessarily a con. Just know that.

    Advice to Management

Continue to place emphasis on getting (and keeping) strong mid-level managers in the markets (SE) where LM has little market share.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and local focus on the team.

    Cons

Upper management is loosing more of their focus and support of front line employees.

    Advice to Management

Remember who is the face of the company to the customer!
