    Pros

The work environment is very professional, but is starting to shift. The work is fast-paced, challenging and rewarded. Great place to work.

    Cons

Office can sometimes be a little stuffy. Work can be stressful, especially when there are extreme weather conditions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep working on the rewards and recognition programs. When the work is stressful, be understanding and continue helping people get thru the long hours and difficult times.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time

    Pros

The compensation is fair, and perks for working in the Home Office are good - lots of giveaways and free meals.

    Cons

It's a PowerPoint company, if you expect to achieve little but spend massive amounts of time working on your slides colors and fonts you will be right on target. The company's Corporate Development Program is in full swing, don't expect to be advanced to a managerial position unless you're one of the golden ones. What this really means is the managers are disconnected from how things really work - EOS scores are bad and declining - go figure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Dump the LMS program - it's a disaster. Your LMS coaches barely have a clue - they know the buzz words, but don't have the experience to manage a project or process improvement program. (the one's I knew only took the LMS position to get out of their current dead end job). A real Lean program is based on bottom up improvements, this program only adds layers of approval / waste and violates almost every Lean Principle that has every been proven valid. Read J.M. Juran 1992 "Quality by Design" then go back and start over.
    2. Review the Corporate Development Program, staffing the managerial levels with these 2 year wonders or 2 year blunders as the are referred to, is fueling the majority of downstream headaches - review the EOS comments on Managers, Senior Management and efficient processes.
    3. Stop moving managers around so often, it takes years to develop the relationships and experience needed to become effective. Your current managers objectives are pretty simple; a. don't make waves, b. don't address the real problems, c. take micro management to a new level, and d. concentrate on those PowerPoints - spending 40 hours on a 1/2 hour presentation is pretty common.

    Pros

Things depend a lot on your manager and the department/team you're a part of.
    Pay is good.
    Benefits are good, not great.
Good work/life balance depending on your role and manager.
Since it's a big company there are opportunities to move to different areas and do different things if you're interested.

    Cons

It's a big company in a highly regulated industry, so that impacts your daily work. There are a lot of different, interlocking groups and a lot of competing interests at times. Things sometimes move much slower than you would like and it takes a lot of time and effort to make meaningful changes.
Meeting deadlines is the only thing that matters to upper management
Office accommodations are okay at best

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make it easier for average employees to change things and give them more freedom to do their work.

    Pros

Awesome workplace, and environment, never have an issue finding something great about the Boston Head Quarters.

    Cons

Not much hope for good amount of in company growth. Most people leave Liberty and then come back after Liberty agrees to honor their new salary. When I am sure they'd like to just stay and get that awesome raise for their hard work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop sub contracting! just hire people. Trust me you have a great company, but nobody wants to be a contractor.
