    Pros

    Great company, people and wages

    Cons

Hiring hundreds of contract people short term so they don't have to pay benefits or time off. To be fair they are not alone in this practice.

    Advice to Management

If you spend the time and effort to train people on your systems and those people become valuable assets to the company because of it, you need to hire them. Stop planning only quarter to quarter, look at the big picture - get your act together in a timely manner, and realize the people you trained are making you money because they are good at their jobs and you're letting them go, so how much money is really being saved!

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, easy to work around appointments. Love being able to work 7-3 instead of 9-5, because I'm a morning person. If I had to work "normal" 9-5 hours I would lose a lot of productivity.

    Cons

There's no such thing as "leaving work at work" - often we end up working nights and some weekends to make deadlines.

It's also extremely difficult to move "up the ladder" unless you really press the issue.

Lots of Project Managers, but not enough people in the trenches to actually get the work done.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your everyday employees who need to get the job done on tight deadlines, and not so many project managers.

    Pros

    Salary and benefits are great
    Good people to work with
    Interesting opportunities

    Cons

    Ridiculous rewards for upper echelon
Always pushing experienced people out of organization
Decent managers browbeat by awful director-level and above
Department heads are out of touch and focused on their bonuses
    Highest levels lapping up luxury

    Advice to Management

Stop spending millions on redecorating your office
Stop giving multi millions in bonuses to highest levels only to eliminate worker spots - people are overworked so stop getting rid of folks

    Pros

Good pay for this area and they have a good benefits plan. They also have a nice bonus once a year for all employees based on the success of the company.

    Cons

They use monolithic systems developed by ibm that should have been thrown out years ago. They have too many lifers that get fat off the company but refuse to change and now they are in positions of power so they can keep everyone under them down.

    Advice to Management

Learn to listen to the people in the trenches. They do the work they study the trends of their job. They have important opinions.

    Pros

Cutting edge technology and incredible room for growth. I worked with some of the best people around. It was an absolute enjoyable experience at Liberty Mutual.

    Cons

Could be more modern ie flexible work arrangements and allowing people to work from home.

    Advice to Management

Don't lost good people because you are old school

    Pros

People were professional; however, the majority were overworked. The Portsmouth, NH office is located next to Pease airbase.

    Cons

I use to receive e-mails dozens and dozens of e-mails at night. My boss use to send me 3-6 e-mails every morning around 3am. People were expected to work crazy hours all the time. Lots of turn-around. When i accepted the position, it was Boston based (a few miles from my home). However, i ended up traveling to NH everyday for a 120 mile round trip commute. The hours, expectations, travel and pay were simply not worth it.

    Advice to Management

The workload is huge and staffing of projects is lean. My work e-mail averaged over 50 e-mails each night (after 7pm). Too much for the $,

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, great people to work with, not a cut-throat environment

    Cons

personal growth. If you are coming from tri-state area it could look a little slow paced but not a bad thing for work-life balance

    Advice to Management

Focus a little more on employee training. Some of the folks I worked with were a little out-dated in respect to technology

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Realize that you're an IT shop and stop following Progressive and Geico, start leading and creating innovation. And ditch those terrible IBM products.
