I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Good salary. As a claims person you manage your own appointments.

    Cons

Work/life balance is horrible. Expect to work on your days off. Long time employees with experience are undervalued and overlooked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seek the advice of people that have been working claims for a long time rather than a new Harvard MBAer with no claims experience whatsoever.

    Pros

Helping customers in a very difficult time in their life. Freedom to make decisions and resolve issues.

    Cons

The employment reviews were based on metrics that were either unattainable, or unfair because the scores were not a direct correlation to performance.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are great. The price you out of the market early on.

    Cons

Management handles situations poorly. They do not take the time to know the staff . even the front line managers are micro managed and not empowered to do the job they were hired to do. No interaction across units. Lack of integrity for a company that has in their creed to treat people with dignity and respect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest with your employees. Look at who you have running your organization.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Personally developed my networking skills with other business professionals to build a referral base. Was a good place to get your "training wheels" in the insurance business if you are someone who aspires to open your own brokerage.

    Cons

Sit in a cubical most of the day on the phone. Heavy outbound call volume. Even for veteran, top sales representatives in the country, it is mandatory to be in the office 1-2 evenings per week until 8-9PM or later with phone calls being tracked. Average earnings of sales representatives dropped significantly when the company began over-staffing the sales force which also resulted in a higher turnover percentage. Top-down management structure created high levels of micro-management. If you take all 15 vacation days you will likely miss your quota.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to develop more of a servant leadership style and move away from management through fear of not hitting quota.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance

    Pros

No office overhead and being paid to sell.

    Cons

Because you don't have overhead you are at the managers digression on marketing and events.

    Pros

You don't really have a chance to stagnate as they want to get everyone trained in all lines.
Most people there are friendly as long as you do what you should be doing.
There are decent bonuses once a year, and generally there is plenty of opportunity for overtime.

    Cons

TIME MANAGEMENT!!! Every second of your day is planned out. It's difficult to adjust to the scheduling aspect of the job, you are required to enter codes into your phone that lets your supervisor, scheduling, etc know what you're doing. If you make a mistake, say forget to change your code when you return from break, you get in trouble and they keep a record of it. It affects your reviews, raises etc. If you are more than 4 minutes late to work, you lose 2 hours of vacation time. They are extremely unforgiving with this policy. Training is a little on the weak side, but expectations are high. If you are a "social" person, this job is not for you! This job is about production; you are staring at a computer screen 7 hours a day entering data and you will get into trouble if you are caught conversing with your neighbor.

    Pros

Good pay if it lasts. PTO and disability.

    Cons

Constantly raising quotas, need to sell 80-100 policies per month to cover cancels and make a commision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

50% of new hires are gone after 1 year. Set a reasonable goal.

    Pros

overtime with pay upon approval. good group of people (co-workers). great benefits and 401k

    Cons

managers always left on time while the rest of us tried to stay caught up. high turn over due to demand of workload. goals were stressful in order to obtain them. management never fought for us, just did what higher up told them to do. generally that created more work not less nor make it any easier. lot of duplicate work entry. not enough time or workers for the load. the company spent money on things that did not need fixing and wouldn't spend money on what did need fixing. seems management and employees on different page.

    Pros

Great people to work with in the office

    Cons

No respect for frontline employees. You're run into the ground, then tossed to the side to make way for the new sheep coming in for the slaughter. It never used to be this way.
