    Pros

Tax course is a great way to gain valuable tax knowledge. If you are offered a position it is also a great opportunity to get your foot in the door to start preparing taxes.

    Cons

    It is only seasonal work

    Pros

Co-workers and management gave respect and worked with each other to get a job done.

    Cons

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, because the tax season is so short, employment is only for 3.5 months.

I have been working at Liberty Tax Service part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Generally, this is a seasonal part time job from January until April. I have met and maintained friends from the company.

    Cons

Compensation is very low, after 8 years with the company I'm only at $10. per hour. Generally management is never around, some offices are better than others, ex on several occasions I've had to purchase office supplies for the office. This is a franchised business which means "Mom and Pop" behind a corporate name and is usually ran in that order. I've had issues where my payroll taxes were never reported nor did I receive a W-2 for my earnings. Corporates motto is its all about the money and when employees have issues with "franchise owners" it's not corporates job to help. It seems year after year we (employees) have more and more responsibilities and never receive compensation for it. In my 8 years with the company I have worked for "6" different owners and 5 of these owners have sold their franchise and were so happy they did. I've always had issues with the fees we charge for overall easy tax returns and the more complicated returns we see in late season (generally high income clients) fees are much lower.

    Pros

Easy software. Good training. Good environment.

    Cons

    Work schedule is not consistent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't hire part-time workers if you don't have enough hours for them to work for when other employees want days off. Hire someone that is on-call in that type of situation.

    Pros

It was interesting meeting the various types of clients. Co-workers and supervisor were wonderful people. It was really a challenge to make sure you got it right.

    Cons

Like any other company it is about the money. The Corporate group answers to Wall Street and need to get the revenues up. This makes the Franchise owners do things that are borderline illegal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to offer a better work environment for those people that really making the money for you.

I worked at Liberty Tax Service full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

easy job to get, great place to gain knowledge and experience in the tax industry, some customers are given unfair discounts at top managements discretion.

    Cons

no room for growth, depending where you work you meet unruly clients (some clients think they know more about taxes than you b/c their friend is in a similar situation), office area is very open which I find unsafe when clients are giving you important information, and if you are new to the office do not expect to get a normal schedule

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

make employees feel like there is room for growth, treat all employees the same, look into reworking the set-up of the office, and make sure top management stays up to date with new tax laws

I have been working at Liberty Tax Service part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The overall office atmosphere is positive and everyone is willing to help each other when needed. The tax software is top of the line. Training is pretty good depending on who your tax school teacher is. (some were good, some were bad).
Fun place to work overall. Mostly seasonal work so it is nice for someone with family demands or other employment.

    Cons

Boss is cheap and raises are non existent. Office supplies are also very cheap - no calculators, no sticky notes, no white out, copiers break a lot, cheap fax machine, etc...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give raises! Invest in proper office machinery and supplies!
