Small Company experiencing significant growth based on products and people

I have been working at Life Extension Foundation

    Pros

Excellent Pay, Healthcare/Vision/Basic Life provided at no cost, ability to be part of the latest industry health related vitamin and supplement company. Company significant discounts on products

    Cons

Growth is always difficult when your competing with yourself - member based private company which can be difficult when members have high expectations - think how you would expect to be treated at your doctor's office - would you want them to pay little attention to you or treat you rudely or give you incorrect information - standards are understandably high. Many people find great success there

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There have been changes recently - monthly performance bonuses less changes to expectations and opportunities to do other things -- seems like the right approach

    Pros

A lot of information about vitamins. Good pay, good benefits.

    Cons

Micro-managed. Some of the Supervisors look like they just stepped out of rehab. Customers get away with any and everything. You better work OT during the holidays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being so damn anal, it's vitamins, not life insurance.

The job was easy to perform but management made it stressful.

I have been working at Life Extension Foundation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The supervisors, which are really team leads, has a good rapport with the employees in the call center. There's a cafeteria that serves hot food and it is near restaurants and Win-Dixie grocery store. Workforce makes an effort to temporarily change scheduling if you need to have a day off or come in late. There was always lots overtime which is paid at double time. Each year the company give a bonus of $1,000 - $4,000 based on performance.

    Cons

Customers are allowed to get away with everything. 80% of the customers are disrespectful, snobby, and irate for no reason. Quality listens and grade minimum 18 or more calls monthly. Quality scores are subjective based on what the person grading the calls think and not on the customer's experience. The company is growing slowly and there is little room for growth. People are promoted based on who they know and not for how well they do their jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try having less meetings on how to make the quality requirements on calls more stringent and take action on creating a career development platform to promote from within. By having a job mentor program and free online tutorials on how to perform jobs in the organization, you can retain the long time and loyal employees you have.

    Pros

    3 month training
    Great learning experience

    Cons

Tied to the phone all day.
They monitor and grade all your calls. Its micromanaged!
They do not value their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your health advisors leave within 1 year and you spend 3 months training them. There is a problem there and you ignore it!

Good company to work for if you want to stay abreast of the latest in Alternative Medicine.

    Pros

Company focuses on training employees on latest science in Alternative Medicine, FDA compliance, and software they use.

    Cons

Very stressful to deal with customers, most of whom are older and dealing with chronic disease. Biggest hurdle is tip-toeing around draconian FDA rules which make it very hard to just talk about Natural Medicine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Higher wages, friendlier evaluation of employees who have super stressful jobs!

    Pros

    Great people to work with

    Cons

Treated like call center employees and not the professionals with advanced degrees that most health advisors have.
I feel like I'm in elementary school again having to ask to leave my desk
Salaries are too low for the work experience and level of education.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay employees what they are worth and treat them like professionals and maybe there would be less turnover.

I worked at Life Extension Foundation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits (medical, dental, etc) were good overall. Most of the regular employees (except the managers, executives, supervisors) were good, honest, hard-working people. Pay was decent, but could be better.

    Cons

As a highly experienced professional, I have worked at several corporate positions within this company for more than 2 years. These positions (and departments) lack basic organizational skills. You had to figure out how to operate quickly with little to no training in a dysfunctional, chaotic and unorganized environment, which causes high stress on a daily basis. The managers and supervisors set unrealistic expectations with little to no guidance if you need help. The organization simply doesn't care about you. Experienced and talented health professionals are taken for granted at this organization, and are treated very poorly everyday. This company does not want you to succeed at their organization, nor after you leave the organization. Entrepreneurial and innovative ideas are highly discouraged. This company has a very high turnover rate. I have known many talented individuals who have left this terrible environment! I couldn't rate this company a "0" star so I had to put down a 1-star rating of this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of Paul Gilner (CEO) and all the other useless executives in this corporation. They are nothing but greedy parasites that ruin the image of how an honest corporation is supposed to be run. They threaten, coerce and intimidate employees to get what they want. Honesty, humility, and the desire to improve has been thrown out the window at this company. William Faloon (owner) needs to be aware of how these parasites are destroying his company. The managers and supervisors need to actually do some work and actually be involved in helping their subordinates consistently improve. The managers and supervisors have a cushy and comfortable position (often for many years) and are too lazy to help improve and develop the department they are managing/supervising.

I have been working at Life Extension Foundation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits for employee, health insurance is FREE for employee (but watch out if adding spouse/children),co-workers are typically awesome...

    Cons

Despite the fact that I hold a doctorate degree and have worked professionally in my field for years, I was treated like a third grader. You even have to ask permission to run to the restroom! Feedback focuses on making sure you know how much you suck and how your job is in constant jeopardy for any number of subjective "performance" issues. Upper management is terribly stifling, works from a standard of coercion, threats, and general fear-mongering among employees. The current CEO is a grade A prime choice BULLY.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go wake up the owners and have them get a new CEO.
