The work never stops

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Life Technologies

ProsThe people are great, there are lots of opportunities to work with some of the best technology, and the environment is very entrepreneurial. (at least this was true prior to Thermo)

ConsEverything is a priority, the priorities are always changing, deadlines are unrealistic yet you are expected to deliver anyway. Women are not valued or promoted in most areas of the company, particularly IT. (just count the number of women in leadership positions or ask the last time a woman was promoted into one - maybe 5 years ago?)

Advice to Senior ManagementFigure out what the priorities are and stick with them long enough to make some progress. Eliminate the boys club and favortism so everyone has a chance to shine.

While pay is very competitive, expectations regarding sales can be significantly unrealistic.

Account Manager (Former Employee)
Philadelphia, PA

I worked at Life Technologies full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat pay, independent work environment (working from home), access to technology, essentially get to be your own boss, great for resume building (you will have to assume multiple job responsibilities

ConsUnrealistic expectations for sales goals, massive turnover at both the account manager, and division manager level, very much a boy's club, while co-workers may seem helpful be careful about their intentions

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate more stability and certainty in the work environment. Many employees are worried they will be fired instantly when they don't hit their numbers one quarter. Yes, it is a performance position, but fear is no way to motivate.

Great place to work but benefits keep getting cut.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Life Technologies full-time for more than 5 years

ProsFantastic people who listen to your ideas and willing to make changes in the way work is performed in order to make the business run more efficiently.. aka work smarter not harder.

ConsOver the years I was there, many of the benefits that made it a workplace you never want to leave got slowly reduced and many removed entirely.

Advice to Senior ManagementExcellent benefits make happy employees and happy employees go far to making a healthy business.

learning experience

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Life Technologies

Prosyou can meet wonderful people to learn from and better yourself. The benefits are good and the system allows some freedom to put on different hats if you're interested

ConsA lot instability to buy outs and at times a lot of uncertainty. Many times workers are bounced around and given minimal amounts of time to leave an impression.
