I have been working at Life Technologies

    Pros

you can meet wonderful people to learn from and better yourself. The benefits are good and the system allows some freedom to put on different hats if you're interested

    Cons

A lot instability to buy outs and at times a lot of uncertainty. Many times workers are bounced around and given minimal amounts of time to leave an impression.

    Pros

Many new things to do each day; you will learn a lot and be pushed.

    Cons

Carlsbad is town from a postcard; condos, beaches...but nothing that makes it unique.

I worked at Life Technologies as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

good benefits, friendly employees, managers are supportive and open to new projects. Moving and changing roles/departments are quit easy to do. Company is supportive of your career and where you want to "lead" it. Orientation was very supportive of keeping your career within the company rather than looking else where.

    Cons

Lack of communication between management. Could work on establishing better visions across divisions. The overall goal of the company is well understood, but the granularity of goals sometimes are hard to understand, especially as a new employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work closer together, communicate down to employees.

I worked at Life Technologies as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The intern program is GREAT. Paid holidays off, independence and freedom in the workplace (no micromanagement AT ALL), free company clothing/gear, great atmosphere, very nice employees who are kind to interns, great perks, intern events (lots of time to bond with other interns, we all became friends), excellent pay. Senior managers are also very kind and open to helping out.

Many interns loved their stay in San Diego, because the work/life balance allows you to also enjoy the amazing summer weather outside of work and socialize with other friends/interns.

I assume things will contract a bit though, due to the Thermo acquisition.

    Cons

The only con I can think of was my manager.

My day-to-day supervisor/mentor was truly amazing (as were 99% of the employees I met there), but my manager was never to-be-seen. I think I just got stuck with a lackluster one, because other interns seemed to love theirs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give clear instructions and voice your expectations. How will employees know what they need to accomplish, without you expressing it to them?

I have been working at Life Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

At one time I'm told Life Technologies, Thermo Fisher or whatever they are calling themselves this week was a great place to work. Had great benefits and pay.

    Cons

Too much employee turnover. They "lay people off" for no good reason other than to cut expenses but mostly for petty reasons. Management could care less about their employees and they foster an enviroment of enabling employees to "sell each other out" by informing on them to further their own careers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you cant manage to learn to treat your employees decenty, please resign so new management can take over. As it stands now most of you in addition to the human resources dept. at our site is horrible.

    Pros

Good place to work and train your yourself. Fast paced some opportunities to move around if you look to apply yourself.

    Cons

Usually if you get promoted they don't offer you significant increases in salary. The company focuses a lot on marketing
