I worked at Life Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Life Technologies is one of the most innovative companies when it comes to life-science or bio-production products and services.

    Cons

Life Technologies has come a long way in a short amount of time; their internal processes and management teams are, and will be struggling for some time, to overcome the challenges that are associated with raped growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sales force is too complex, and needs to be scaled down. Fix the systems that are already in place before championing new ones. Scale back on reports required by sales teams – they need to concentrate on selling, not reporting.

    Pros

LT deals in cutting-edge biotech systems, so there's always something new to learn, and opportunities to collaborate with people from all over the world.

    Cons

The business is global so it never stops and I would often find myself on conference calls and handling emails outside of anything like business hours. Also, projects supporting stated strategies were not always sufficiently supported for good results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be credible to employees, and follow through on stated strategies.

    Pros

    You easily learn your job.
    You make some great friends.

    A lot of Overtime opportunities.
    Close-knit group.

    Cons

    In manufacturing, you didn't advance.
    Large turnover.
They only keep those that kissed butt - not necessarily those that worked the best.
You're stuck with the same people for 10 hours.
On your feet for 10+ hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually get to know your workers and observe who really does work hard and REWARD them.

They are focused on safety and employee efficiency, Kaizen and safety initiatives are excellent.
